IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) expect their opening batsman Shubman Gill to be fit and available for the second leg of IPL 2021 to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next month.

Last month, Gill sustained a shin stress fracture and it was said he would be out of cricket action for two months, which ruled him out of the England Test series.

KKR hopeful on Shubman Gill’s availability for rescheduled IPL 2021

“We are quite hopeful that he will be available for the IPL,” KKR CEO Venky Mysore said, as reported by Cricbuzz.

At the start of this month, Gill joined National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his rehabilitation and he is being made to work on an Alter-G machine – an anti-gravity treadmill that helps an individual to decrease his body weight while running on it.

“He is not feeling pain. Gradually his workload will be increased – from slow jogging to running twice-thrice a week. We’re confident he will be fine by the IPL which is anyway a month away,” an informed source told Cricbuzz.

Shubman Gill hasn’t performed well for KKR in IPL 2021 so far

Gill hasn’t made a great impact with the bat in IPL 2021, he made 132 runs from seven innings and is yet to register a fifty-plus score this season. Kolkata Knight Riders are placed at the second-last position of the points table with four points, having just won two matches so far.

KKR players are scheduled to fly to UAE on August 27 but Gill won’t be travelling with them as he is yet to receive a fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy and is likely to join the team in the first week of September.

KKR will resume the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on September 20 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The last time the two teams met, RCB had won by 38 runs in Chennai.
