Kris Boyd has urged Steve Clarke to make THREE changes against Switzerland - and bring Billy Gilmour back into the fold.

Scotland require at least a point against the Swiss on Wednesday night to keep their dreams of progressing into the knockout stages alive after a humiliating 5-1 opening day defeat to Germany. Switzerland got their Group A campaign off to a perfect start yesterday by thumping Hungary 3-1 and can all but seal their place in the last 16 with another three points.

Boyd doesn't expect Clarke to make wholesale changes but has urged the national team manager to give Brighton playmaker Gilmour the nod ahead of Ryan Christie. Ex-striker Boydy also expects Grant Hanley to replace the suspended Ryan Porteous and thinks James Forrest would be a better option at right wing-back instead of Anthony Ralston.

He told the Scottish Sun: "Where I can't see much change is in the line-up, simply because Clarke doesn't have that many options. But I would make three - Grant Hanley for the suspended Porteous, Billy Gilmour for Ryan Christie and James Forrest for Anthony Ralston.

"The change in central defence is obvious, but I also believe we need more on the right flank. No disrespect to Ralston, who has stayed fit despite not playing a lot for Celtic, but he would be nowhere near this squad if Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson were available.

"Forrest offers a more attacking option and would bring us up the pitch in a game we must get something from. As for Gilmour, I wonder if Clarke does now have regrets about not starting him against Germany. The little Brighton midfielder is as brave as they come at taking the ball under pressure and using it well.

"Gilmour would have helped Callum McGregor, who looked completely out of sorts in midfield. The same goes for Scott McTominay, who was off the pace playing in that deeper role. Clarke probably felt Christie could offer more than Gilmour in the final third, but it just didn't work.

"Against the Swiss, I'd revert to McGregor and Gilmour as the deep midfielders, with McTominay and John McGinn ahead of them. There will also be calls for Lawrence Shankland to start, but I would stick with Che Adams up top. The Scotland striker had a thankless task against Germany and got zero service. He deserves another chance.

"But whoever plays, we need to get back to the type of performance that got us to these finals. We need to press, we need to be aggressive and we need to carry a threat. Switzerland will be one of the biggest games in the Scotland manager's career.

"Clarke won't panic. He will have a clear head and will know where it went wrong against Germany. But he will also understand that a repeat performance will spell the end of our Euros campaign."
