West Ham are in talks to ensure Kurt Zouma's £25million move from Chelsea does not fall through.

The deal has suffered another setback after an issue with the defender's knee was identified during the final stages of his medical, though there is hope a compromise will be found with club sources now saying discussions have resumed in order to iron out the late issues following rigorous medical checks.

Having returned to France for personal reasons this week, Zouma began his medical in Paris on Thursday with checks continuing late into the night - though there was optimism on all sides that a the deal would go through.

West Ham, who received the results back in London on Friday lunchtime, sent a member of staff to the French capital to help with proceedings, where a late issue has arisen.

Zouma ruptured his cruciate ligament in 2016 but has not suffered any serious knee issues since and has featured consistently in recent seasons.

The 26-year-old had agreed personal terms with the Hammers after a compromise was found following initial wage demands of £125,000-a-week.

Once those terms had been agreed, there were further complications with one of the 26-year-old's representatives which had to be navigated.

Zouma has been included in the France squad for their games over the forthcoming international break so, as long as the deal goes through as expected, he will join his new team-mates ahead of their game against Southampton on September 11.
