New Zealand pace bowler, Kyle Jamieson, has stated that he’s looking to work on improving his T20 skillset in the upcoming second leg of the IPL 2021, especially with the T20 World Cup in mind.
The tall Kiwi was snared by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a whopping 15 crore INR in this year’s auction. He performed quite well for the franchise, picking up nine wickets in seven matches before the league was postponed amidst a covid-19 outbreak.
The IPL will resume in the UAE, following which the T20 World Cup will start at the same venues. Revealing what his plans going forward are, Jamieson hoped to acclimatize to the conditions prior to the ICC event.
“It certainly gives us, [and] me a little bit of a head-start in terms of getting used to those conditions and those grounds. It’s nice to have a block of T20 cricket going into the World Cup and, like I said, just a good chance to practice some T20 skillsets in the venues we’re going to be playing on,” the 26-year-old said.
“Being involved in T20 cricket allows you to get into that mode” – Kyle Jamieson on what he learned during a stint with RCB
Coming into the IPL, Jamieson had a lot of burden on his shoulders. There were a lot of expectations of him, considering the amount he was bought for. He tried to keep the price tag aside and just get used to the format, which doesn’t come as naturally to him as Test cricket does.
“I think it was good to have the first block of T20 cricket and, I guess, you are constantly reviewing that and try and see what the plans are at certain stages of the game, certain conditions, different grounds, different batters.“
“I guess there’s no specifics around that sort of stuff. But just being involved around T20 cricket for a period of time, sort of, allows you to get into that sort of a mode,” he explained.
Kyle Jamieson is not part of New Zealand’s tour of Bangladesh and instead will participate in the IPL when it restarts on September 19.
