France star Kylian Mbappe has shown that he is taking an interest in how his new Real Madrid teammates, including Jude Bellingham, are getting on in the European Championships with a question he asked after a press conference.

Bellingham and England were in round of 16 action against Slovakia on Sunday evening. The Three Lions looked to be heading out of the competition when they were trailing 1-0 going into the final seconds of added time in the second half.

With fans starting to be resigned to another early exit from a major competition, Bellingham had other ideas. The 21-year-old sent supporters wild by sending the game to extra time with an overhead kick in the fifth of six minutes added on.

England didn’t take long to turn the game on its head in extra time. Harry Kane headed home Ivan Toney’s flick-on in the first of the extra 30 minutes to book a place in the quarter-final of the competition.

While the game was being played, Mbappe was doing his media duties ahead of France’s tie against Belgium. Footage has been shared of the moments before the France star left the room.

After the journalists had finished asking their questions, Mbappe had one of his own. “Has someone got the England score?” He asked.

Journalists answered with: “1-0 to Slovakia.” Mbappe replied with “1-0? How long left?” He added “five minutes?” while seemingly surprised at the scoreline. Mbappe then got up and left the room.

Depending on what other commitments he had, he may have caught the turnaround inspired by Bellingham. Mbappe will be playing alongside the England man at club level in the new season, having completed a move to Real Madrid from Paris Saint Germain before the Euros.

It comes as UEFA have launched an investigation against Bellingham after a gesture he made towards Slovakia fans following his equaliser.

A statement from a UEFA spokesperson reads: "A UEFA ethics and disciplinary inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match.

"Information on this matter will be made available in due course."

Bellingham himself responded to allegations shortly after the match, writing on Twitter/X: "An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight."
