Lady Beavers fall to Wyoming East in New River CTC Invitational girls final

Jan. 5—BECKLEY — Making it to the girls championship game of the New River CTC Invitational was an encouraging development for a Bluefield squad eager to recover some of its former regional swagger.

Unfortunately for the Lady Beavers, defending state champion Wyoming East has yet to lose any of the considerable swagger it already possessed.

Roaring out to a 23-9 lead after one quarter, the Lady Warriors pressed and ran their way to an 83-51 victory over Bluefield to collect the girls tournament title.

Cadee Blackburn scored 31 points — including five 3-point goals — to lead the girls from East Richmond to the crown.

Blackburn sorted out seven assists for Wyoming East. Madison Clark scored 16 points and distributed nine assists.

Arionna Dowell led Bluefield with 20 points. Cara Brown scored 14 points with Ava Spangler scoring seven. Nyasia Hanley had eight rebounds for the Lady Beavers while Disiray Jackson had six boards.

Boys Game

River View 58, Sherman 51

BRADSHAW — Jackson Danielson scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and the Raiders defeated Sherman at home on Thursday.

Ashton Hunt scored 10 points for River View (5-0) while Ethan Justice and Jaytex Hatfield scored nine points apiece.

River View returns to action on Tuesday in a 1:30 p.m. game at Montcalm High School.

Late Boys Games

Montcalm 54, Meadow Bridge 33

MEADOW BRIDGE — Donavan Reed scored 17 points to lead the Generals, who outscored Meadow Bridge 23-6 in the third quarter, on Wednesday night.

Justin Pacitto added 16 point for Montcalm, which travels to Richwoood on Friday. Lisbon Bossard scored nine points and Tresten Cline contributed eight points.

Meadow Bridge led 25-20 at halftime but Montcalm dominated the third quarter and won 54-33.

The Wildcats got 15 points from Brycen Sawyers.

Wyoming East 45, Princeton 39

BECKLEY — Cole Lambert scored 14 points and Braxton Morgan chimed in with a lucky 13 to lead the Warriors to a New River CTC Invitational win over the Tigers on Wednesday night.

Bryson Huff had seven rebounds for Wyoming East.

Koen Sartin led Princeton with 12 points, also pulling down six rebounds. Zayden Neeley added 10 points.

Nik Flemming led the Tigers on the boards with nine rebounds and Marquel Lowe had six rebounds.

Late Girls Games

Wyoming East 64, Princeton 27

BECKLEY — Kyndal Lusk scored 19 points and the Lady Warriors' endline to endling man defense got the Lady Tigers out of their game en route to a lopsided victory in the New River CTC Invitational on Wednesday night.

Cadee Blackburn scored 17 points for Wyoming East which forced 22 Princeton turnovers.

Montcalm 51, Liberty 41

GLEN DANIEL — Tori Sizemore erupted for 24 points and the Lady Generals outran Liberty-Raleigh on the road Wednesday.

Taylor White added 10 points for Montcalm while Mady Hudgins put up eight points.

MCA 60, Midland Trail 35

PRINCETON — Bailee Martin scored 22 points and the Mercer Christian Academy girls dismantled visiting Midland Trail on Wednesday.

Karis Trump added 17 points for the Lady Cavaliers (6-2) and Ella Botts added 12 points.

Late Middle School Girls

Princeton Middle

PRINCETON — Kylee Jackson had 12 points and 10 steals and the Lady Tigers remained unbeaten after toppling visiting Beckley Stratton on Wednesday night.

Addison McCabe had 11 points and 10 steals for Princeton (7-0). Brystal Winfrey had nine points, 12 rebounds and five steals.
