Lady Panthers bring home regional championship

Mar. 2—TISHOMINGO — The Latta High School girl's powerlifting team won the Small School championship at the South I-40 Regional Meet held Tuesday at Tishomingo High School.

Four Lady Panthers — Laraby Jennings, Audrey Forshay, Jaycie Prine and Faith Adegbule — qualified for the 2024 Oklahoma Girls Powerlifting Coaches Association State Meet scheduled for Monday in Durant.

"I can't say enough about the resilience of these young ladies," said Latta powerlifting head coach Zach Sullivan. "A number of other girls who were in the mix (for a state berth). They weren't afraid to push just a little more to get that next number. Nearly all the girls hit their maxes or set new PRs. I'm proud of how hard they've worked for themselves and for each other. They left everything they had back at the racks in Tishomingo."

Latta won the Small School title with a team score of 68. Snyder was a distant second at 27 points followed by Empire with 22 points, Hollis at 21 and Christian Heritage Academy at 17.

Latta finished four overall at the meet, which included 63 teams from Class B to Class 6A.

Jennings qualified at 150 pounds after finishing second out of 62 entrants. She won the deadlift with 335 pounds and finished fifth in the squat.

Prince was fifth at 165 pounds. She won the deadlift with 335 pounds and was fourth in the bench.

Adeguble finished 5th at 198 pounds after placing third in the deadlift and third in the bench.

Forshay was sixth at 121 pounds and finished third in the deadlift.

Other Lady Panther results included: Avery Wilson, 12th at 108; Erin Kerr, ninth at 121; Ryan Gray 12th at 136. She finished fifth in the deadlift; Payton Noland, 10th at 165; Mary Bell Wilson, sixth at 220. She finished third in the squat; and Jadyn Jackson, sixth at heavyweight. She finished fifth in the deadlift.
