LaLiga: The latest transfer rumours from Spain including Griezmann, Andre Gomes and Coquelin

The transfer window is in full swing after Barcelona completed their mega money move for Philippe Coutinho this week. However it doesn’t appear their spending spree is over just yet with another striker on their radar. Elsewhere, a Barcelona cast-off is attracting interest from a Premier League side.

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) to Barcelona

The dust hasn’t even settled on Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona but it appears the Catalan giants are on the hunt for another €100m player. With their squad looking much stronger now there’s an able replacement for Andres Iniesta, focus is switching to a new striker. And who might that be? A certain Antoine Griezmann from their nearest rivals in the table, Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann was on the verge of a move to Manchester United last summer but the deal fell through due to Atletico’s transfer ban. United are said to still be keeping tabs on Griezmann but are now looking at alternatives. And while a move to England – and a chance to join up with his best mate – is appealing, so is a move to Barcelona.

However the situation between the two clubs isn’t exactly friendly. Atletico were upset at Barcelona approaching their player without going through the club. So much so in fact that they sent a letter to FIFA warning them of Barcelona’s behaviour. The timing of the approach, just as Atletico moved into second place in the table, came across as a deliberate attempt to unsettle a rival.

‘El Larguero’, a radio show in Spain, say that talks between the player and Barcelona do exist. Should Griezmann make the move, he would be on a wage scale similar to that of Luis Suarez. To take that into account, Suarez only earns less than Lionel Messi at Barcelona so it’d be quite the pay rise. Atletico are adamant that Griezmann won’t be sold unless someone offers his full buyout clause: €100m.

Before they can spend €100m and offer someone €15m per year, they need to get rid of some fringe players first.

Andre Gomes (Barcelona) to Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking of players that could be leaving Barcelona in the not so distant future, step forward Andre Gomes. The Portuguese international is somewhat of a forgotten figure at the Camp Nou despite arriving with great expectations. The former Benfica and Valencia man continues to find life tough up north and is someone the club are looking to move on.

Despite the speculation in England about a move to Tottenham Hotspur, there’s very little to back that up in Spain. In the dying hours of the summer transfer window it appeared like Gomes could be on his way to White Hart Lane but it ultimately fell through.

With the aforementioned Coutinho now on board, Barcelona are suffering from what they call ‘overbooking’. The issue is shifting out players who are earning a fortune but do little to nothing at the club. Arda Turan, Andre Gomes and Gerard Deulofeu all fall into this category.

Turan doesn’t want to leave and is digging his heels in over a potential move to Turkey. Deulofeu is attracting interest from Italy again but only on loan, whereas Barcelona want a permanent deal. As for Gomes, there’s very little to say. This doesn’t mean Tottenham won’t make a last ditch swoop but it appears there are other players Barcelona are looking to move on ahead of Gomes.

Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid) to Real Betis

In the summer Real Madrid beat rivals Barcelona to the signing of Dani Ceballos. But after doing their little victory dance it appears Madrid forgot they already had a stacked midfield. This leaves the Betis man seriously struggling for game time.

In fact, Ceballos has played just over 180 minutes for Madrid in the league. That’s a criminally low amount for someone who was instrumental for Betis over a number of years. After a fine U21 tournament, this move was to mark the start of Ceballos’ rise up the ranks. Instead he’s lucky to make the match day squad when everyone is fit. That’s a huge waste of his talent.

In the past few days there’s a suggestion a return to Betis could be on the cards for Ceballos. Betis’ president, Angel Haro, said he knew about the rumours and that “anything could happen” when quizzed about Ceballos’ future. It probably wouldn’t be the worst move for the player either as there’s simply too many people in his way to securing a starting spot at Madrid.

Michy Batshuayi (Chelsea) to Sevilla

It feels like Michy Batshuayi has never truly settled at Chelsea. Batshuayi was dubbed the ‘new Drogba’ at the time of his signing. Instead he’s failed to dislodge Diego Costa and is now behind Alvaro Morata in the pecking order. And when the Spanish striker was unavailable this season, Eden Hazard got the nod ahead of Batshuayi.

The latest team to show an interest in Batshuayi is none other than Sevilla. They are desperate to add more firepower to their team with record signing Luis Muriel struggling for form. It seems unlikely Sevilla would be able to buy the Chelsea striker and certainly not match his current wages. But a loan deal could be beneficial to both parties. ‘AS’ report that Sevilla are keeping an eye on the striker’s situation.

Francis Coquelin (Arsenal) to Valencia

In quite possibly one of the most random rumours of the transfer window, it appears high-flying Valencia are keen on bringing in Francis Coquelin. Arsenal have told the player he is free to leave and the Frenchman is simply after regular football. The sticking point could be the fee.

Valencia would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy. If Los Che can secure Champions League football, it’s important they are smart with their cash. With Geoffrey Kondogbia set to sign for €25m, it leaves very little wriggle room for his backup. Arsenal want a straight cash deal worth around €10m.

With Arsenal happy to see him go, a loan deal seems like the best option. This gives Valencia the chance to test out Coquelin in their system, allowing Kondogbia to rest, and be able to negotiate a new fee in the summer. Out of all the rumours today, this appears to be the most likely to happen.

Sandro Ramirez (Everton) to Celta Vigo or Sevilla

The Premier League has a lure about it that so many Spanish players can’t resist. You’ll hear players talk about the passion, the atmosphere and how football means so much to British people. The money isn’t bad either.

Sandro Ramirez was sensational for Malaga last season, scoring 16 goals along the way. Everton beat off the competition in the summer to sign the promising forward but his adaptation is taking longer than expected. Everton could let him return to Spain as soon as this month.

Valencia were originally interested but were put off by Everton’s demands. They instead opted for Luciano Vietto to strengthen their forward line. But there is still plenty of talk from other sides in Spain who would love to add Sandro to their squads.

Celta Vigo’s president confirmed they, like many others, were waiting for developments on Sandro’s situation. “At the moment Everton are saying he won’t be leaving the club.”

Until Everton decide what they’re going to do with Sandro, it appears LaLiga sides will just have to bide their time.
