With the fixtures out, supporters can finally look for dates and start planning for the 2024/25 campaign.

Take a look below at the last time the Royals met each of the 23 teams in League One next year.

Barnsley

Barnsley 2-2 Reading, April 13, 2024

The point which mathematically secured Reading’s place in League One, the Royals could have won or lost at Oakwell in what was a thrilling advert for EFL football.

Birmingham City

Reading 1-1 Birmingham City, April 7, 2023

Andy Carroll’s classy goal put Reading ahead early on in what was billed as a must-win for the club’s survival hopes. Lukas Jutkiewicz struck back, and a drab draw was played out in what proved to be Paul Ince’s last home match in charge of the club.

Blackpool

Reading 3-1 Blackpool, April 27, 2024

It was a party atmosphere on the last day of the season as Dia Del Jefe was marked with a win. The Tangerines were blown away late on despite taking an early lead which meant they missed out on the play-offs.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton 5-2 Reading, April 1, 2024

It rained goals on Easter Monday, most of which went the way of the hosts. Aaron Collins and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson ran a tired Reading defence ragged, but the Royals will traipse back up to the Toughsheet Community Stadium after Ian Evatt’s men were defeated under the Wembley arch by Oxford United.

Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers 0-2 Reading, April 9, 2024

The first time Ruben Selles allowed himself a celebration, the Royals bossed the game at the Memorial Stadium from start to finish in what was a highlight of the season for the travelling army of supporters.

Burton Albion

Burton Albion 3-2 Reading, April 20, 2024

Some air was let out of the Royals’ Inflatables Day celebrations on the last away trip of the season, allowing the relegation-threatened Brewers to take a large leap toward League One survival at the Pirelli Stadium.

Cambridge United

Reading 4-0 Cambridge, March 16, 2024

Confidence was oozing out of the Reading side by this point, particularly on their own patch, and mid-table Cambridge suffered at the feet of Femi Azeez and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan. Sam Smith enjoyed a meeting with his former club, opening the scoring early on.

Charlton Athletic

Reading 2-0 Charlton, February 10, 2024

Addicks supporters made the short trip from the capital in their droves to welcome new boss Nathan Jones, but their poor form continued in Berkshire. Before embarking on an impressive unbeaten spell later in the season, Charlton looked to be firmly in the relegation mix walking away from RG2 in February.

Crawley Town

Crawley 1-3 Reading, January 5, 2013

Premier League Reading avoided a banana skin at Crawley with a comfortable win in Sussex. This season will mark the first league meeting between the Royals and the Red Devils.

Exeter City

Reading 3-2 Exeter, January 1, 2024

Reading moved out of the relegation zone with a topsy-turvy win over Gary Caldwell’s Grecians. January would prove a difficult month for the club, on and off the pitch, but they started how they hoped to go on.

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield 2-0 Reading, May 8, 2023

A depressing day in the club’s history, already-relegated Reading limped through the final day and were forced to watch the Neil Warnock love-in post-match after the veteran kept the Terriers up from an unlikely position at the expense of the Royals.

Leyton Orient

Reading 1-1 Leyton Orient, January 27, 2024

A run-of-the-mill League One meeting supporters became accustomed to over the course of last season. Leyton Orient entered the game on an impressive unbeaten run, and it remained intact, while Reading earned a solid point in front of growing home crowds.

Lincoln City

Reading 1-1 Lincoln, April 6, 2024

Lincoln had become the neutral’s favourite for a late playoff run after a 15-game unbeaten run and had won their last five ahead of a trip to Berkshire. There was little to separate the sides and two late goals ensured the points were shared.

Mansfield Town

Reading 3-1 Mansfield, April 12, 1993

Stuart Lovell, Mick Gooding and Scott Taylor found the net at Elm Park the last time Mansfield visited Berkshire over 30 years ago. Mark McGhee’s side secured a top half finish in the third tier in 1992/93 before embarking on a rise through the divisions which almost ended in the Premiership.

Northampton Town

Reading 1-0 Northampton, March 29, 2024

The Cobblers were on the beach when visiting Reading and neither side looked likely to win until Ehibhatiomhan curled home a late winner to tip a balanced tie in Reading’s favour.

Peterborough United

Peterborough 2-2 Reading, December 26, 2023

It was a very merry Christmas for the Reading fans that travelled to London Road on Boxing Day, treated to a real cracker. Smith and Azeez twice equalised to prevent the promotion-chasing Posh from recording a league double of the Royals.

Rotherham United

Reading 2-1 Rotherham, February 14, 2023

A season-low crowd of under 9,500 turned out to spend their Valentine’s Day evening watching two relegation-threatened teams battle out in the Championship. Falling behind to veteran Lee Peltier, Andy Carroll and Tyrese Fornah turned the game on its head in the closing stages to earn what would be a penultimate win of a dreadful season.

Shrewsbury Town

Reading 2-3 Shrewsbury, February 24, 2024

Reading’s bogey team last season, Salop recorded a double over Selles’ men with yet another five-goal thriller for the neutral. In the infamous reverse fixture, most of the goals came in the last 10 minutes, but in RG2 it was the early knockings where most of the action took place.

Stevenage

Stevenage 0-1 Reading, February 6, 2024

In swirling wind and rain, Reading stood up to Steve Evans and his physical Boro side to record what was only a second away win of the season and a first midweek away win for over five years.

Stockport County

Stockport 5-1 Reading, March 3, 1998

The Royals last met Stockport in the second tier, but a 5-1 hammering at Edgeley Park went a long way to condemning Tommy Burns’ side to a third tier return after five years. The Hatters have been down to the sixth tier and back in the last 25 years.

Wigan Athletic

Wigan 1-0 Reading, January 20, 2024

In a battle between two sides suffering points deductions, Wigan edged in front with a stunning Thelo Asgaard goal and held on to ensure the points remained in Lancashire.

Wrexham

Wrexham 0-2 Reading, December 29, 2001

The Racecourse Ground and Wrexham was much less glamourous 23 years ago when Reading last headed to North Wales, beating the Red Dragons on route to promotion out of the division both now find themselves in.

Wycombe Wanderers

Reading 1-2 Wycombe, March 9, 2024

Garath McCleary’s emotional return to the town he called home for nearly a decade saw the Chairboys earn a first win on Reading soil for over 20 years and ensure the Berks-Bucks rivalry ended with a win apiece for 2023/24.
