Latest Celtic transfer news on Peter Vindahl Jensen, Chris Mepham and Kyogo

It's early days yet with the transfer market not even open yet, but already there is plenty of talk around Celtic's intentions.

Unsurprisingly much of the chatter has been about the goalkeeping position and prospective targets, considering that's probably the most important area to look at with Joe Hart retiring. Countless names have already been linked but we at Football Scotland brought you a concrete one yesterday.

We understand that Sparta Prague shotstopper Peter Vindahl Jensen is high on Brendan Rodgers' wishlist and Hoops chiefs are already in talks with those at the Czech club. Sparta are reluctant to lose him after handing him a long term contract when making his loan from AZ Alkmaar permanent, so the Hoops may need to push the boat out.

QPR keeper Asmir Begovic is another name linked and he was quizzed on his future, explaining: “I am currently looking at options, talking to obviously QPR and see what happens there, see what happens in the next few weeks, it is still pretty early in the transfer window. Nothing has been decided yet. I am keeping myself fit. I really enjoyed last year, the fact that I played so many games.

“In the second half of the season, for us, the team became together really well. Let’s see if we can keep this group of players together, have another run at it next year, see what else is out there and take it from there.”

The left-centre back role is another that has been earmarked with Liam Scales performing well there but Rodgers after another option. Football Scotland understands Bournemouth man Chris Mepham is a name that interests Celts.

The Welshman has found himself out of the team of late and only has a year left on his deal, so the Cherries may consider cashing in. However, the Daily Mail report that Celtic may still have to stump up £8million.

Another story we brought you was the latest on Urawa Red Diamonds' interest in Kyogo. The J-League side currently have cash to burn and and are reportedly looking at the 29-year-old. However, we told you no offer has yet been submitted.

Meanwhile, the agent of Mexican midfielder Andres Montano namechecked both Celtic and Rangers when talking about his client's future. He said: "Yes, there are four clubs in Liga MX who have approached us including Cruz Azul and we have held conversations with them," he said of the player.

"But we plan for Andres to make the jump to Europe now due to his characteristics and because it is the goal we aim for him.

"We think that Andres could easily play without problems for Celtic, or for Rangers, because of our relationship with them, but they are not the only ones. Celtic and Rangers have a lot of quality. The English Premier League is the number one league in the world and we already have Edson Alvarez (West Ham) and Raul Jimenez (Fulham) as Mexicans there.

"But to get to that league, you have to move elsewhere in Europe first like Greece, Portugal or Scotland. And being able to play with Celtic or Rangers for a year makes it the perfect pathway to go to the Premier League.

"The Scottish League would be the best bridge for him it has a lower level that would allow Andres to play more often.

"It wouldn't help him or us to take the player to a league where he plays intermittently - what we want is for him to play and in Scotland, Andres can play plenty. If we cannot find a club in Scotland, we would look at the Eredivisie in the Netherlands instead."
