Latest next Chelsea manager odds as new favourite emerges to replace Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is under significant pressure following the disastrous 5-0 defeat to Arsenal. Just four days before the London derby against the Gunners, Chelsea saw their FA Cup hopes end in tatters with Manchester City beating them in a semi-final clash at Wembley.

Inconsistency has plagued Pochettino in his first campaign in charge of the Blues with one of their best performances at the weekend followed up by a below-par display at Emirates Stadium. "It's difficult to talk because we are talking after nearly one season in the same way," Pochettino said when asked how he and his squad can stop the season unravelling.

"It's impossible to see after Saturday at Wembley, a fantastic performance, competed really well against a very good team like Manchester City and then today. You can lose against Arsenal, they are fighting for the Premier League, but in the way we competed. Why one day, three days ago, and then today in this way?

"For the circumstances, we needed to make some changes for different reasons but that is the inconsistency we are showing the whole season. Three days ago; fantastic game, great performance and we deserved to go to the final and then today, we cannot use any words to describe this performance. It was not great, it was not good."

The manner of the defeat has resulted in many calling for Pochettino to be sacked but no imminent decision looks set to be made by the Chelsea hierarchy. Despite that, talk surrounding available managers and therefore who could replace Pochettino has remained rife with a very surprising favourite emerging.

According to Betfair, Pochettino is the second-favourite Premier League manager, at 5/1, to depart before the end of the season with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag the only manager at lower odds. In terms of the candidates to replace the Argentine, current Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann tops the standings at 5/1 despite recently signing a new contract.

Bayern Munich looked in pole position to appoint their former manager to replace Thomas Tuchel, however that no longer is the case. Tuchel is also included as one of the names that could become Chelsea manager at 14/1 alongside Zinedine Zidane and Xavi.

Any of the aforementioned three taking control at Stamford Bridge seems highly unlikely though, however there are another four names that could take over. Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi is at 13/2 to become Chelsea manager with Jose Mourinho, Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim and Girona manager Michael Sanchez all at 9/1.

A Pochettino replacement arriving before the end of the season seems unlikely, however if results continue to be poor heading into the 2024/25 campaign, a tough decision may have to be made with some of those managers above likely on high alert.
