This is the latest in virtual reality technology

When it comes to virtual reality and augmented reality, the sky’s the limit. VR and AR headsets can offer a whole new experience to watching movies, playing video games, engaging with apps, and more. There truly is a good reason for anyone to own a VR headset. But even though VR technology hasn’t been around for that long, there are still tons of VR headsets out there to choose from, and different systems are geared towards different experiences, so it’s not always easy to know which headset is right for you.

If you’ve been wanting to dip your toes in the world of virtual reality but aren’t sure where to start, you’re in the right place. On this episode of Game On, host DJ Steph does a deep dive into all things VR and shares some of the best VR headsets on the market right now.

First up on DJ Steph’s list is the Meta Quest 2, an immersive all-in-one VR headset. The Meta Quest 2’s focus on display quality and motion tracking “makes the device better for classic, scenic VR experiences that aren’t based in gaming,” says DJ Steph. This would be a good headset for multiplayer games, productivity apps, or to watch 360° videos on, explains the host.

Plus, it’s got an adjustable soft strap “designed to offer lightweight comfort to any type of player,” so you can keep it on for long periods of time without discomfort.

Next up is the Sony PlayStation VR, which works with PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, “and acts as an extension of your hardware,” explains DJ Steph. “Meaning you can play pre-existing games with your headset.”

The Sony PlayStation VR has nine LEDs on the front, back and sides of the headset that are tracked by the PlayStation Camera, which guarantees pinpoint accuracy while gaming.

Finally, the HTC Vive VR headset is equipped with 6 tracking cameras that give “expansive movement coverage with a wide tracking field-of-view,” notes DJ Steph. Its 2880 x 1700 combined-resolution makes visuals second-to-none for a totally immersive experience from beginning to end.

VR is popping up in more places than ever—and not just in the gaming space, so it’s a good time to learn about the new technology and what it can offer, so that soon you can experience a whole new frontier of entertainment and beyond.
