Latta girls win Chickasha championship, boys finish fourth

Feb. 20—CHICKASHA — The Latta High School girl's powerlifting team continues to turn heads by winning the team title last week at the Chickasha Invitational.

The Lady Panthers piled up 119 points to run away with the championship. Snyder was second with 79 points, Marietta finished third at 74, Kiefer followed at 61 and Minco rounded out the Top 5 at 60. There were 35 total girls' teams at the meet.

The Latta boys finished fourth in a field of 53 small-school squads. Crooked Oak won the championship with 87 points, edging second-place Washington which finished with 86 points. Dibble was third at 82 and Latta finished with 66 points. Victory Christian rounded out the Top 5 with 65 points.

"Our kids did a great job against some really good competition," said Latta powerlifting coach Zach Sullivan. "They hit new maxes throughout the day and competed their tails off. I couldn't be happier with their effort."

Both Latta teams return to action Friday at Tishomingo High School.

GIRLS

Jadyn Jackson captured the heavyweight championship. She finished first in the deadlift, third in the bench and fifth in the squat.

Audrey Forshay and Laraby Jennings both recorded a pair of runner-up finishes. Forshay was second at 121 pounds after finishing second in the deadlift. Jennings won the deadlift at 150 pounds and finished fourth in both the bench and the squat.

Jaycie Prine and Faith Adegbule came away with third-place finishes. Prince was third at 165 and finished first in the deadlift, third in the squad and fourth in the bench. Adegbule finished second in the deadlift, third in the squat and third in the bench.

Other Latta girls' results included:

—Avery Wilson finished six at 108 pounds. She tied for third in the deadlift.

—Erin Kerr finished eight at 121 pounds.

—Daisy Marical and Ryan Grey tied for ninth at 136 pounds. Grey finished fifth in the deadlift.

—Payton Noland finished sixth at 181 pounds. She was fourth in the bench and fifth in the squat.

—Stacie Williams finished eighth at 198.

—Mary Belle Wilson finished seventh at 220.

BOYS

Holden Lee paced the Latta boys squad with a second-place showing at 181 pounds. He finished first in the deadlift and fifth in both the squat and the bench. He had a total weight of 1,230.

Jed Marical finished fourth at 145 pounds with a combined weight of 1,005. He won the deadlift and finished second in the squat.

Zeagan Stewart placed fifth at 220 with 1,200 total pounds. He finished third in both the squat and the deadlift.

Other Latta boys results included:

—Abraham Tellez placed sixth at 132 pounds. He finished fifth in the deadlift.

—Andrew Morrow finished sixth at 157 pounds. He placed sixth in the squat.

—Eithan Harris finished ninth out of 50 competitors at 168 pounds. He finished second on the bench.

—Jake Clampit finished third on the bench at 181 pounds.

—Cooper Underwood finished 12 out of 62 lifters at 198 pounds. He finished sixth in the squat and had a total weight of 1,200.

—Dylan Moffat finished eight at 220 pounds with a total weight of 1,110.

Latta was missing some powerlifters who were competing at the state DECA meet.
