Latta wins pair of tight contests at Roff

Dec. 15—ROFF — The Roff Lady Tigers gave Latta a scare before the Lady Panthers held on late for a 41-38 win Tuesday night.

Latta improved to 5-4 on the year, while the Lady Tigers dropped to 4-6

Things weren't easy for the Latta boys team, either. Upset-minded Roff stayed within striking distance throughout the contest before the Panthers prevailed 45-36.

Coach Matt Bryant's club, ranked No. 16 in Class 2A, improved to 6-3 on the year, while Roff lost for the seventh straight time, falling to 2-8.

The Panthers travel to Stonewall tonight for a showdown with the Class A No. 8 Longhorns, who will enter that contest with a perfect 10-0 record. Roff travels to conference rival Allen tonight.

GIRLS

Latta 41, Roff 38

The Lady Panthers led 15-7 after one quarter and still held that eight-point edge, 25-17, at halftime. Roff got within 32-26 heading to the fourth quarter and the Lady Tigers ended the game on a 12-9 run.

Kelbey Parnacher led the Latta offense with 15 points, including a pair of 3-point baskets. Kate Williams also drained a pair of threes and scored eight points for the visitors. Jayse Smith and Savannah Senkel both chipped in six points for Latta.

Senior Shelby Ensey poured in a game-high 21 points for Roff. Sophie Eldred sank three 3-pointers for all of her nine points. Brianna Bess added five points for the home team.

BOYS

Latta 45, Roff 36

The Panthers were clinging to an 11-10 lead after one quarter before Caymen Smith hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 14-10 LHS spurt in the second period that saw the Latta lead grow to 25-20 by halftime. Latta outscored Roff 8-6 in the third frame and 12-10 in the final period.

Smith and Sam Brown both scored 14 points to lead the Latta offense. Smith finished with four triples in the contest. Parker Pogue was next for the Panthers with five points.

Kaden Darnell scored 14 points for Roff, 11 of which came in the first half. He hit a fourth-quarter, 3-pointer. Zeph Wade also reached double figures for the Tigers with 11 points, including a trio of 3-point shots. Caden Gore just missed double digits with nine points for the home team.

Latta made 3-of-8 free throws in the game compared to a 1-for-4 showing for Roff.
