Laura Whitmore addresses criticism of her parenting after posting family pic
Laura Whitmore has addressed critics of her parenting, after she received concerned comments about her method to keep her baby cool during the current UK heatwave.
The TV presenter posted an Insta pic of a sunny family outing yesterday (1 June), featuring herself and partner Iain Stirling enjoying the warm weather at a park.
"Park life! Have a great week everyone," Laura captioned the image.
At first glance to many, it's a lovely snap, but some Instagram users shared their perceived concerns about Laura and Iain's new baby, as it appears a car seat covered in a muslin cloth is in the background of the picture.
"Loving the summer vibe but please don't cover the baby with blanket traps heat," one social media user said, while another added: "It's actually extremely dangerous."
Others stepped in to defend Laura. "It's not a blanket though. A muslin cover/mosquito net to protect the baby," one said.
"Cue the parenting police," another wrote, while one person added: "It's to protect her and don't tell Laura how to parent."
Laura herself then spoke out about the criticism, by sharing a screen grab of one of her critics apologising via direct message.
"God I despise it when I see people sticking their beaks in over ridiculous aspects of people's parenting... but on this occasion I stuck my beak and I'm glad it was told to shut up. Enjoy your week Laura xx," the person reached out.
Laura replied to the user by telling them she'd deleted their comment to protect them from receiving "any hate" and captioned the screen grab with "No judgement, just positivity."
She then posted a slide onto her grid reading: "Instagram is cool but real life is cooler", captioning it: "Don't forget to live your life" - seemingly sending a message to those who'd passed judgement on her park selfie.
And with that, Laura made her firm but fair approach to her parenting critics known.
It's not the first time Laura's addressed the tougher side of being a mum on her Instagram, having previously posted about the reality of juggling working and breastfeeding.
When it comes to celebrity parenting, we can definitely count on Laura to keep it real and spread the message of being kind of social media. Keep doing you, Laura.
