Lauren Wade's 4-goal night leads to 8-0 Jacksonville win

Feb. 26—MADISONVILLE — Sophomore Lauren Wade tallied four goals Friday night when Jacksonville trounced Madisonville, 8-0, at Mustang Stadium.

Wade was one of five Maidens whose name showed up on the score sheet. Sophia Romero, Victoria Villanueva, Jewel McCullough and Evelyn Lara knocked in a goal each for Jacksonville (13-3-1, 8-0).

Jacksonville head girl's soccer coach Colten McCown said that he was more concerned with the manner in which the goals were produced, as opposed to the overall number of goals that were generated.

A good strategy considering the fact that the Maidens had outscored their foes by a combined score of 83-2 during the first half of conference play.

"We were focused on making decisions and playing at a level that can take us on a long playoff run," he said.

"On our first possession, six-different players possessed the ball before Sophia Romero scored."

That's exactly what McCown wanted to see.

By the time the final horn had sounded, Jacksonville had managed to score in a variety of ways.

"We scored on free kicks, throw-ins and a counter that started in our box," McCown said.

Lara had two assists for the Maidens, while Itzel Arredondo, Wade, Villanueva and McCullough had an assist apiece.

Defensive players of impact for the Maidens included Alexa Medellin, Landry Harmel, Ara Castillo and Mariana Arredondo, according to McCown.

At 6:45 p.m. Tuesday Jacksonville, who sits in first place in the District 16-4A standings, will entertain Palestine Westwood.
