LEAGUE CUP: Sorry Arsenal thrashed by flying Owls
Arsenal have suffered a disastrous return to Hillsborough Stadium, losing 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday and having two key players injured.
A desperatley poor Arsenal side have crashed to a 3-0 defeat in the Capital One Cup round-of-16 clash against Sheffield Wednesday.
To make matters worse for Arsenal, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain only lasted five minutes before his night was ended by a hamstring injury, and his replacement Theo Walcott went off shortly after with a calf complaint.
Ross Wallace was the star for Wednesday, scoring the first goal, assisting the second and setting up their third.
The one-time Scottish international opened the scoring from the ege of the box, meeting fullback Daniel Pudil's byline cut back with a rasping drive into Petr Cech's right hand corner.
It was then his cross five minutes before halftime that striker Lucas Joao - who has still never lost in a match where he's scored - was able to head past a helpless Petr Cech in goal.
Wednesday completed Arsenal's humiliation in the 51st minute when Wallace's deep free kick found defender Tom Lees with the freedom of the Gunners' box to to cushion a pass across Cech's six-yard line where Sam Hutchinson couldn't miss for the Owls.
Arsenal struggled to create anything and put were hardly able to put Wednesday's 19-year-old goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith under any pressure, and must now get up for a visit to Swansea City on Saturday.
