Legendary GAA commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh has sadly passed away at the age of 93.

The Kerry native died in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, on Tuesday morning and will leave behind an iconic legacy with over 60 years in broadcasting.

He was a beloved figure within the GAA community with a unique ability to paint pictures through words and phrases.

He has a collection of famous quotes including one about former Cork hurler and footballer Seán Óg Ó hAilpín.

“Seán Óg Ó hAilpín... his father’s from Fermanagh, his mother’s from Fiji. Neither a hurling stronghold,” stated Ó Muircheartaigh.

He was also named in the Guinness World Records for having the longest career as a live-match commentator.

Here are some of his other most famous quotes.

“The stopwatch has stopped. It’s up to God and the referee now. The referee is Pat Horan. God is God.”

“Pat Fox has it on his hurl and is motoring well now, but here comes Joe Rabbitte hot on his tail… I’ve seen it all now, a Rabbitte chasing a Fox around Croke Park!”

“Teddy McCarthy to Mick McCarthy, no relation, Mick McCarthy back to Teddy McCarthy, still no relation.”
