Liel Abada eye-watering Charlotte FC contract revealed as ex Celtic star earns FIVE times former Rangers man

Liel Abada is the highest paid player in Charlotte FC's history and is earning FIVE times more than ex-Rangers star Scott Arfield.

The former Celtic winger sprung a surprise when he quit Parkhead for MLS in January. He had been expected to leave the club after personal issues stemming for the fans' support of Palestine and some flak that earned him from back in his homeland of Israel, amid the conflicts there.

But there had been previous interest from clubs in England, with the likes of Southampton highly-tipped to make a move, so heading Stateside came from the blue. But the appeal of MLS may have just become clear as Abada's eye-watering contract details have been made public.

According to US publication The Herald, the 22-year-old is earning €2.3m (£1.81m) a year, working out at £35,000 a week, and that his the highest the club have ever paid out to a player. It doesn't stop there though, as his earnings can potentially rise to $2.5m (£1.97m) per year with bonuses.

Ex-Gers midfielder Arfield made the move to Charlotte a year ago after his Ibrox contract expired and he is said to be taking home £354k. While Poland's Euro 2024 striker Karol Świderski is on the significant sum of £1.77m, which is still a bit less than Abada.

Abada has three goals in nine appearances for his club, who are fifth in the MLS table, 12 points behind Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
