Lisnaskea 4-09 Brookeborough 0-05

Lisnaskea’s four goals a game average this season continued at Emmet Park last Thursday as they began the official league campaign with a win over Brookeborough.

John Reihill’s side picked up maximum points from the Club Players’ Competition after a first-place play-off win over neighbours Newtownbutler last time out meaning they now have five points after one game and sit top of Division Two.

“It was a close contest in the first-half, but once we got the goal early in the second half it was near enough game over,” Reihill said on the league opener.

“Not our best performance at times, the game seemed low key and some of the football played was not pretty.

"At the end of the day, a comprehensive win without the display. We will need to up our performance to continue our good start to the season.”

Meanwhile, after a bright start to the game, Brookeborough fell away in the second half, with manager Donal Boyle targeting an improvement when his side come up against Maguiresbridge this Friday.

“We missed four or five scores in first-half which would have left it tighter at half-time,” he said.

“We were a lot more competitive than last time we played Lisnaskea. We opened it up more in the second-half to try and come back into it after we conceded the first goal.

"Three soft goals conceded in the last 10 minutes which was disappointing for us. I was happy with the work rate, and we can build on the performance next time out.”

Brookeborough started on the front foot early doors on Thursday evening and hit three early wides before the home side eventually got in around the middle of the park and enjoyed more of the possession.

Sean Keenan added points for the Emmets alongside Eoin McCabe and Ethan McCaffrey.

Two frees via Conor Howell and Conall McDonagh pulled Brookeborough back into it just before halftime with the score at 0-07 to 0-02 as the teams headed towards the changing rooms.

An early goal at the start of the second half saw Lisnaskea ease to a win as they eventually added three more with Niall Keenan finishing with 2-01.

Damian Óg Kelly and Hayden Lynch also found the net with Sean Keenan, Paul Mohan and Kelly all splitting the posts.

Rhys Bogue, McDonagh and Conor Howell all tagged on scores for Brookeborough but they were only consolations at that stage.

Lisnaskea will aim to make it two wins from two when they travel to Coa on Friday evening this week.
