Liverpool have already secured seven-figure windfall as Arne Slot transfer plans take shape

Liverpool have already been given a Champions League reward ahead of their participation in the 2024/25 campaign. After finishing third in the Premier League table, behind Arsenal and Manchester City, the Reds will be back among Europe's elite after one campaign in the Europa League.

In the wake of Real Madrid winning the latest edition of the Champions League, UEFA have released two statements with one taking a detailed look at how the tournament will differ from recent seasons. The major change surrounds the early stages with the eight groups of four replaced by a league table now consisting of 36 clubs.

The top eight teams will head straight into the last-16 stage with the following 16 forced to contest a two-legged play-off in order to earn a knockout stage place. In UEFA's other huge announcement, how much prize money every club set to participate in any European competition will receive has been revealed.

With 108 teams set to play in Europe next season across the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, a prize money pot of £.3.3billion is up for grabs.

Merely just for participating, each club will be given 27.5 per cent of the pot which equates to just over £8.4million, if the prize money is split equally. The remaining funds are then handed out on success and a new pillar labelled value, "which combines the two existing distribution pillars of market pool and coefficient," as per UEFA.

Exactly how much will go to Liverpool is currently unknown with UEFA not making it clear how the money is split between their three competitions. However it is very likely Champions League teams are awarded more with a seven-figure windfall almost guaranteed just for qualifying.

With that in mind, head coach Arne Slot has already likely drawn up a list of summer transfer targets with new sporting director Richard Hughes. Atalanta star Ederson has been linked with a move to Anfield with fellow midfielder Teun Koopmeiners also an option.

Lille defender Leny Yoro is also being targeted by Liverpool but he appears destined for a move to Real Madrid. Updates on Crysencio Summerville and Marc Guehi, with both of interest to Liverpool, have also emerged, though Slot appears yet to formalise interest in any player with it likely talks advance following the conclusion of Euro 2024.
