Liverpool is already involved in some major transfer speculation amid conflicting reports over a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The Brazilian featured against the Reds in the Europa League this season and was pivotal as his side went on to win the competition.

It was reported on Thursday that Liverpool had a bid on the table for the 24-year-old midfielder, with SportsZone suggesting an agreement was close between the club and Atalanta.

However the Daily Mail reports that those claims are wide of the mark and there have been no bids from Liverpool, with Ederson not a top target at this stage.

Ederson only moved to Atalanta in the summer of 2022 after a brief spell with fellow Serie A side Salernitana. Before that, he had spent his playing days in his native Brazil.

But his rise has been meteoric and capped with an excellent display in the Europa League final against previously-unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen. Ederson's reward has been a place in the Brazil squad for Copa America.

He has attracted interest from Premier League clubs in the past, with Tottenham and Newcastle both believed to be admirers. His former boss at Corinthians, Tiago Nunes, has always been confident he can reach the very top.

"He has two main strengths," Nunes told Sky Sports earlier this year. "Firstly, on the pitch, he has great physical strength, with the ability to play box-to-box, back and forth, sustaining the pace of the game. Secondly, he has a very strong mentality, with a very clear awareness of what he wants.

"He has the ability and the physicality to handle the pace of the game. He is a very vertical player with a lot of pace in the final third of the pitch. This is a player with very particular characteristics who can develop even more in a league as strong as the Premier League."

Liverpool.com says: It doesn't appear that Ederson will be a transfer priority for Liverpool at this stage but things do change as the summer goes on. Let's not forget, there is still two months until the new season starts. He showed his capabilities against the Reds in the Europa League and has the engine to make a real difference.
