Liverpool's long-serving head of goalkeeping John Achterberg will leave at the end of the season.

Achterberg's contract expires at the end of the current campaign and the former Tranmere Rovers keeper will depart after 15 years with the Reds in search of a fresh challenge.

It means incoming head coach Arne Slot will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeping coach as another key member of Jurgen Klopp's backroom staff gets set to call time on a decorated spell with the club.

It's unclear if Jack Robinson, Achterberg's understudy, will remain with Liverpool going forward or if 1994 Brazil World Cup winner Claudio Taffarel will stay on Merseyside as the club continues to reshape significantly behind the scenes.

Actherberg joins assistant managers Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz as end-of-season departures alongside Klopp and elite-development coach Vitor Matos, with Feyenoord coach Slot expected to restructure the backroom staff with his own appointments over the summer.

Assistant Sipke Hulshoff and head of performance Ruben Peeters are expected to join and analyst Etienne Reijnen is also set to be appointed.

Achterberg's exit comes against the wider backdrop of change at Liverpool this summer with Michael Edwards on board as owners Fenway Sports Group's 'CEO of football', Bournemouth's Richard Hughes due to join as sporting director from June 1, and David Woodfine to return to the club as his assistant.
