Liverpool have confirmed they have offered a new contract to goalkeeper Adrian as the departure of three promising academy youngsters was formally announced.

Adrian signed a one-year extension in 2023 but hasn't featured for the Reds since the 2022 Community Shield when they beat Manchester City 3-1 at Leicester's King Power Stadium.

However, with the future of No.2 Caoimhin Kelleher the subject of strong speculation at present and the goalkeeping department undergoing something of a revolution at Anfield following the exits of the long-serving John Achterberg and assistant Jack Robinson, veteran shot-stopper Adrian has been offered a further 12 months to remain in place.

The Spaniard, who signed from West Ham United in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer, is mulling over the terms as he weighs up his next move. Last year, there was interest from back in his homeland before he opted to remain with Jurgen Klopp's side.

Adrian played 18 times in total in his first year on Merseyside including 11 in the Premier League title-winning campaign of 2019/20, but he has since dropped further down the pecking order behind first-choice Alisson Becker and Kelleher.

As a result, the former Hammers keeper has made just eight appearances in the four seasons since that debut term but his level of experience and quality mark him out as the perfect deputy in Liverpool's eyes.

The contract offer comes just days after Hans Leitert was announced as Fenway Sports Group's new global head of goalkeeping with the Austrian tasked with installing a new coaching department at Anfield.

Elsewhere, the Reds have also confirmed that Mateusz Musialowski, Melkamu Frauendorf and Adam Lewis will all leave the club this month.

Poland winger Musialowski made his senior debut in the 6-1 Europa League hammering of Sparta Prague back in March, while Frauendorf, who played twice for Klopp's senior side, will also move on after four years in the junior ranks.

Left-back Lewis has spent the last two seasons on loan with Newport County and was part of an academy side who played in the FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup at Anfield in 2020.

Liverpool also formally confirmed the exits of Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip, whose final seasons at Anfield were both wrecked by injury problems. Thiago's entire campaign lasted five minutes as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal while Matip suffered an ACL rupture in early December, which curtailed his own term.

Academy players Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne and Cody Pennington are also leaving the club, bringing the total up to 10.

Liverpool's official released list: Thiago, Matip, Lewis, Frauendorf, Musialowski, Gilbin, Gyimah, Hewitson, Osborne, Pennington.
