Liverpool has plenty of obstacles to overcome before a move for Anthony Gordon materializes, with initial talks breaking down over Newcastle's insistence on trying to include Jarell Quansah in a deal. The player's presence at Euro 2024 presents another potential hurdle, but the club has a way to overcome it.

With Newcastle facing potential pressure to complete a deal before the June 30 PSR cut-off, time is very much of the essence. Therefore, any transfer would need to be completed while Gordon is still away with the England team.

This presents obvious logistical challenges. Liverpool would usually conduct important steps like the player's medical on its own premises, but Gordon likely won't have time to leave the camp and then come back.

However, Liverpool has something of a green light to complete the deal, if an agreement with Newcastle does materialize. At the moment, it's looking unlikely, but plans are in place to speed things along.

Helpfully, Gareth Southgate is not ruling the England camp with an iron fist - according to Sky Sports News. He will allow players like Gordon to discuss transfer matters with their agents while away at Euro 2024.

Some coaches would discourage or even try to ban that, demanding focus on the tournament. But if things start to accelerate, Gordon will be in a position to thrash out the terms.

But what about getting the deal fully over the line? The clock is clearly ticking on that June 30 "deadline", and Liverpool will obviously need to complete a medical.

According to Football Insider, Gordon could undergo a medical in Leipzig while still with the England camp. That would presumably see Liverpool rush its team out to Germany to make sure there's nothing untoward.

The same report claims Liverpool is preparing a fresh offer for Gordon. So as the hours go by, this is certainly a highly exciting one to watch.

Liverpool.com says: There's an awful lot to like about these reports of a deal for Gordon. Quite apart from how much it would irritate fans of Everton, his former club, it also seems like it would be a really shrewd piece of business.

Gordon has gone up another level since leaving the Toffees. Hitting double figures for goals and assists last season, he would inject new energy and purpose onto the Liverpool flanks, potentially becoming a part of the team for years to come.

But even though a deal could be done in face of the logistical issues of Euro 2024, it still looks like a hugely complicated one. Whether an agreement can be reached within the next 24 hours or so remains to be seen.
