Arne Slot is the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp as the Liverpool manager over the summer. The current Feyenoord boss is now in talks with the club over a possible move.

It has come extremely quickly for the 45-year-old after Liverpool had made Xabi Alonso their priority target. Ruben Amorim and Julien Nagelsmann were other names linked whilst Roberto De Zerbi has been on the periphery of conversations.

Slot, who was close to joining Tottenham 12 months ago, has now emerged as the frontrunner to be in the Anfield dugout next season. Coming off the back of winning Eredivisie in the 2022/23 campaign, Slot won the Dutch Cup at the weekend and has built an impressive resume in his time as a manager so far.

He has a track record of developing young players and has come to be the standout candidate currently in Michael Edwards' search for a new head coach. Slot only signed a new deal last year keeping him in Holland until 2026, though that may not be enough to keep Liverpool from their man.

Now, with things really ramping up, Liverpool Echo has taken a look at how Slot could line up with a dream summer of transfers.

The defence is in a position to stay largely the same. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk signing new contracts with the club would be a major boost and as a period of transition after nine years goes on, Slot working with an unchanged backline will be beneficial.

Ibrahima Konate is a player that can form part of the next great Liverpool defence whilst Andy Robertson on the left still has plenty to offer. Finding a new full-back to support him will be a priority - perhaps someone of Antonee Robinson's style - but for now it's no change at the back.

Midfield is more interesting. This was the area of most movement last summer so the places for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szboszlai are cemented. Watauro Endo has been a splendid addition but Slot may well look to find someone of his own to go alongside them.

Liverpool are all too familiar now with Atalanta's Teun Koopmeiners, but they could be in to learn more about the versatile Dutchman. He played two seasons under Slot at AZ Alkmaar, scoring 21 times in 58 games with seven assists. Capable of operating practically anywhere on the pitch, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the pair reunited at Anfield.

The frontline has been hit-and-miss for Liverpool this season but the exit of Klopp could also see the same for Mohammed Salah. If another big offer from Saudi Arabia comes then parting ways could be on the cards.

Liverpool would need to replace him and here is where things get interesting. Nobody is entirely convinced of Darwin Nunez becoming a more consistent player, and someone that Slot has seen excel under his coaching is Mexican marksman Santiago Gimenez.

The 23-year-old was snapped up by Slot in 2022 and hasn't looked back since. He is reportedly a target for a host of Premier League teams and with 47 goals and 10 assists in 85 games it's easy to see why. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Feyenoord man follow his manager to Merseyside.

Who plays on the wings is a trickier one. Luis Diaz may well be ready to step up to the mantle left by Salah but he will be on the left. Diogo Jota is a versatile option across the board and currently Liverpool's best finisher but more additions could still be made.

Harvey Elliot is another player ideal for depth and options but on the right there could be another signing. West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, anyone?

The 27-year-old is proven in the Premier League and would offer experience and immediate quality to the attack. He's not the glamorous name that most expect but he regularly puts up impressive numbers for a defensive Hammers side.

He only signed a new contract last year but with David Moyes possibly moving on, Bowen could look for the transfer of a lifetime himself. This squad also leaves plenty of room for rotation with Nunez and Liverpool's glowing youth.
