Anderson Arroyo, the Colombian defender who has been on Liverpool’s books for six years without a making a single appearance at any level for the Reds, could be about to depart Anfield permanently this summer.

Now 24, Arroyo looks set for a transfer that would bring an end to his long cycle of loans. The player has been sent out on loan on eight different occasions since signing in 2018 from the Colombian side Fortaleza.

Arroyo signed a contract extension in 2022 so he could stay at Liverpool until next summer in theory, but a move elsewhere makes sense. There is still no pathway to minutes at Liverpool and his loans have had mixed success.

The Spanish outlet Diaro de Burgos reports that Arroyo is expected to join second-tier side Burgos CF, where he was on loan for the second part of last season. He spent the first half of the campaign with another side in the same division, FC Andorra.

It is suggested that an "agreement between the player and the Castilian club is complete". However, "small issues with Liverpool still need to be resolved" before a deal for the full-back, who can also play at center-back, can be concluded and finalized.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool.com in November 2023, Arroyo said: "Liverpool have always been attentive to me while out on loan. I want to establish myself in European football and hopefully one day stay at Liverpool.

"It's difficult to say what position I see myself playing in if I were to return to Liverpool. I think I would feel comfortable in either of the two positions that the manager will need me in because I like them. I am happy defending and I also like to go forward."
