Liverpool Fan View: Three reasons why Jurgen Klopp shouldn't sign Joe Hart

No longer a top goalkeeper…

Liverpool have been without a world-class goalkeeper since Pepe Reina left in 2013. The Spain international’s Anfield exit was premature. Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers must accept the blame for a poor transfer decision. The Northern Irishman recruited Simon Mignolet in a £9m deal from Sunderland. The Belgium shot stopper hasn’t convinced throughout most of his Liverpool career. However, there are signs that Mignolet is starting to come into his own. Klopp signed Loris Karius in a £4.7m deal from Bundesliga side Mainz. Karius was even more underwhelming than Mignolet, although the German has time on his side. If Liverpool are going to invest in a goalkeeper this summer, it needs to be a proven top-class shot stopper. Hart is no longer that.

THREE SUMMER SIGNINGS WHO WOULD LIGHT UP ANFIELD

Disappointing Serie A record…

Pep Guardiola has taken criticism for sending Hart out on loan to accommodate Claudio Bravo. The former Barcelona goalkeeper hasn’t justified Guardiola’s faith in the Chile international. But Hart hasn’t been outstanding in Serie A – though. Torino have conceded 54 goals in 33 games in Serie A in the 2016-17 season. Liverpool, on the other hand, have shipped 42 goals in 34 games. While some ex-professionals have been talking up Hart in the media, the England international has been erratic at times. Klopp can ill-afford to get another goalkeeper signing wrong. Hart has Premier League experience in abundance but there are concerns that the 29-year-old’s best performances are behind him.

Mignolet deserves to stay as No1

Like a lot of Liverpool fans, I’ve been critical of Mignolet. The Belgium international is a great shot stopper but his decision-making is questionable. 2016 wasn’t a good year for Mignolet. It felt like his Anfield career was over. Aided by Karius’ hesitant start to life on Merseyside, Mignolet has produced some of his best form in a Liverpool shirt. Indeed, the former Sunderland goalkeeper has proven crucial to Liverpool’s top-four hopes. The Sunderland man was praised for crucial saves in victories at Stoke and West Brom. Klopp has been showing his No1 a lot of love in the media in recent weeks. As things stand at the moment, you couldn’t envisage Klopp discarding Mignolet this summer. Even his biggest critics will admit Mignolet deserves another season.
