Erik ten Hag is set to remain as head coach of Manchester United, delighting the Red Devils fans who begged for him to stay after winning the FA Cup final against arch-rivals Manchester City.

In a rare occurrence, Liverpool fans are in agreement, although for a different reason. Both sets of supporters are happy about the news as United fans believe Ten Hag deserves more time, but Liverpool fans are convinced that the club won't improve while he remains in charge.

It was reported before the FA Cup final that Ten Hag would be fired regardless of the result, as new minority owners INEOS, who are overseeing the soccer operations at the club, wanted a new head coach to lead the team in a new era. Last season, United recorded its worst Premier League finish in history and also were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages.

The 2-1 victory against City in the FA Cup final may have helped Ten Hag's case, as did the thousands of United fans begging for the head coach to keep his position. An end-of-season review resulted in a change of plans, but contract talks are on hold.

"Quite happy he's staying to be honest, as United aren't going anywhere with him as their manager," one Liverpool fan wrote on social media. "Manchester United will be extending a manager that has spent hundreds of millions and finished last season on a negative goal difference. What an incredible fall from grace," another brutally added.

"The best news I've heard in a long time," one fan wrote. "This is great news for the other 19 teams in the league," another posted. Despite the mockery from Liverpool fans and supporters of other rival teams, United fans are content and believe Ten Hag is the right person for the job.

"Couldn't be happier. Common sense and means we don't have another restart! Back him in the summer now and get behind the man," one United fan wrote. "This has already made my summer," another added.

Ten Hag is under contract until 2025, meaning he will be on trial during the first few months of next season. Should the United head coach struggle to inspire progress then United will part ways with the 54-year-old, but if he aligns with the vision of the new owners, an extension will be negotiated.

The Dutch coach has only spent two full seasons at United, and although the team has failed to challenge in Europe or for the Premier League title, it has won a trophy in back-to-back seasons. In 2022-23 United beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the League Cup final, before lifting the FA Cup last month with an impressive performance against City.

It's been over a decade since legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson left United, and the team has been in decline ever since. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Ten Hag have all been given a chance, but no one has managed to bring the club back to its former glory long-term.

The Liverpool fans are in a similar situation of putting their faith in a Dutch head coach after Arne Slot was hired to replace the departing Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool has enjoyed a golden era under Klopp, but after nine years he decided to call time on his Premier League journey.
