Newcastle United's recent appointment could open up opportunities for Liverpool in the transfer market.

Liverpool, under the new leadership of Arne Slot, have yet to announce any fresh signings this summer. Slot, who was named as Jurgen Klopp's successor earlier this year, will oversee pre-season training at the AXA Training Centre later this month.

Despite the lack of new faces in the squad, there's been no shortage of speculation about potential additions. One name that has been linked with the Reds is Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian midfielder, currently representing his country at the Copa America alongside Liverpool's Alisson Becker, has been strongly rumoured to be on the move from Newcastle this summer, with Manchester City also reportedly interested.

This week saw Newcastle confirm the appointment of Paul Mitchell as their new sporting director. Mitchell had previously been tipped for a similar role at Liverpool following Julian Ward's departure last year, but the Reds recently appointed Richard Hughes instead, with Ward now working within Fenway Sports Group ( FSG ), reports the Liverpool Echo.

Newcastle's decision to bring in Mitchell followed Dan Ashworth's move to Manchester United earlier this week. The former sporting director was responsible for ensuring the Magpies adhered to the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) before the June 30 deadline.

Newcastle managed to meet the financial regulations due to the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, but rumours persist that more departures from St James' Park may be on the horizon this summer.

Among those speculated about is Guimaraes, with Mitchell now tasked with either securing a new contract or arranging a transfer away from Newcastle in the coming weeks or months. Consequently, Liverpool should monitor the situation at Newcastle closely and be prepared to make a move if the opportunity to sign Guimaraes becomes viable, assuming their interest is sincere.
