Liverpool have benefited more than any other Premier League club due to the increase in injury time prompted by new FIFA regulations this season.

The campaign saw a significant increase in additional minutes played at the end of games following a FIFA directive imposed during the World Cup in late 2022 aimed at encouraging more playing time.

While UEFA chose not to impose the regulations in European competition, the Premier League were among those who embraced the new approach.

And the boffins at StatsChecker have crunched the numbers to discover Liverpool were six points better off this season due to goals scored late on - more than any other Premier League club.

Arsenal and Chelsea were next with a positive of four points. Champions Manchester City, though, were two points worse off during the injury time period while Sheffield United lost five points due to goals scored in additional time.

The Reds netted eight goals in injury time in the Premier League, with Darwin Nunez scoring winners at Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, while Harvey Elliott decided the game at Crystal Palace. Luis Diaz netted a late equaliser at Luton Town although, curiously, the only additional time goal scored by Liverpool at Anfield was Mohamed Salah's clincher in the 2-0 win against Everton.

Liverpool, though, lost a point when Joel Matip put through his own goal in the closing stages of the controversial defeat at Tottenham Hotspur back in September.

Nunez's 99th-minute header at Forest in March was the latest winning goal on record in Reds history. And Liverpool have had a habit of scoring late goals during the Premier League era long before the new FIFA directives, having netted the most injury-time winners - 44 - in the history of the competition.
