Liverpool has reportedly made a ‘desperate’ attempt to sign AC Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio amid ongoing uncertainty around the club’s current options.

The Reds face a big summer ahead as they enter a new era under Arne Slot. New sporting director Richard Hughes will of course take the lead on their transfer business, and there will be plenty of pressure on both to deliver.

A report from the Daily Mail has suggested Hughes will be looking for significant upgrades on those already in Liverpool’s squad, and will be willing to trade some of the club’s fringe players in order to balance the books. One area though could well be taken out of his control.

There has already been plenty of speculation over the club’s goalkeepers this summer. Veteran option Adrian has been offered a new contract to stay at the club, although he has already spoken of his desire to move back to Spain.

Meanwhile, Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a move away from Anfield as he seeks a number one slot. The Irish international has admitted he wants to hold talks with Slot this summer over his future.

Alisson Becker has also been rather sensationally linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. TeamTalk suggests that the Pro League is looking to attract a top-level goalkeeper, although the Brazilian wants to stay in Europe.

It might come as no surprise then to see Liverpool being linked with new goalkeepers. According to Tuttosport, the Reds have made a last-ditch effort to try and beat Juventus to the signing of Di Gregorio.

The 26-year-old’s agent is said to be meeting with Juventus soon to iron out the details of an agreement, but Liverpool has made a ‘very rich offer’ in order to hijack the deal. The offer is reported to be higher than that proposed by Juventus.

Furthermore, the report claims Liverpool representatives were in Milan last week to try and convince Di Gregorio. The former Inter Milan stopper though is said to have turned down the Reds’ approach and wants to join Juventus.

Liverpool.com says: It would be strange if Liverpool is already getting ‘desperate’ for a new goalkeeper. Certainly, Adrian and Kelleher’s futures look uncertain, but there is plenty of time to find a potential replacement.

Chances are a new stopper will be needed. Even if Adrian does accept his contract offer, Kelleher seems to have his heart set on becoming a number one, which isn’t going to happen while Alisson is still around. You can’t really blame him for that, so it only makes sense to be hunting around for potential replacements.
