Liverpool star Mohamed Salah "would like to go to Barcelona", according to a close friend of Blaugrana head coach Ronald Koeman.

Salah kicked off the new Premier League season with a hat-trick against promoted Leeds, scoring twice from the spot in a 4-3 win for the champions.

Barca are looking to refresh their ageing squad, having ended last season empty-handed, and are understood to be interested in Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum.

But Koeman is also keen on Salah, according to Ajax legend Sjaak Swart, with the Egyptian similarly open to a switch to Camp Nou.

"I know Koeman wants him – and I know Salah would like to go," Swart told Voetbalzone.nl.

When pushed on the source of his information, Swart said: 'I can't [tell you more]. I am not going into any more details, but just believe me that I know."

Liverpool, and Salah, are next in action on Sunday as they travel to face Chelsea. Barcelona begin their LaLiga campaign at home to Girona on Wednesday.
