Roberto Firmino v Jamaal Lascelles

Roberto Firmino is enjoying his most prolific season at Liverpool. The Brazil international scored in the second half of Liverpool’s 4-1 win over West Ham last weekend. The former Hoffenheim forward has netted 13 goals and has made four assists in 27 appearances in the Premier League this term. Not only does Firmino provide a goal threat, but his brilliant understanding with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah can cause opposition defences havoc. Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has acquitted himself well in his second season in the Premier League. The Chelsea target will endure a testing afternoon against one of the Premier League’s in-form forwards.

Trent Alexander-Arnold v Kenedy

Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the right-back spot his own at Liverpool FC over the past few months. The teenager has provided the Reds with thrust down the right wing to provide width in Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 formation. Newcastle signed Brazilian forward Kenedy in the January transfer window. The 22-year-old has made one assist in four appearances in the Premier League this term. The on-loan Chelsea star will look to use his pace and trickery to test Liverpool’s talented but inexperienced full-back. Alexander-Arnold will need to show discipline or else Kenedy could be a problem on the break.

Jurgen Klopp v Rafael Benitez

Rafael Benitez spent six largely successful seasons at Liverpool between 2004 and 2010. His most memorable success came in 2005 when Liverpool came from 3-0 behind to beat AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul. Benitez has managed Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Newcastle in the intervening years. The Spanish head coach orchestrated an unlikely 1-1 draw with Liverpool at St James’ Park earlier this season. Benitez will have a tactical plan designed to limit the threat of trio Firmino, Mane and Salah. The former Reds boss will undoubtedly adopt a conservative approach to the Premier League clash. Klopp should be prepared for Newcastle to sit back and look to hit the Reds on the counter-attack.
