Liverpool vs West Ham LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez netted a brilliant goal as his side romped to a 3-1 Premier League win over a dogged West Ham United side at Anfield on Sunday, deftly steering home a volley on the hour mark.

The visitors were left to rue some early misses when Mohamed Salah was felled by Nayef Aguerd in the 15th minute for a stonewall penalty, and the Egyptian attacker stepped up to smash home the resulting spot kick to give Liverpool the lead.

That kick-started the home side, but the Hammers still managed to level before the break when Jarrod Bowen dived at the feet of Virgil van Dijk to score with a superb low header for his fourth goal of the season.

Nunez latched on to a lofted pass from Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota hooked the ball home from a late corner to grab a win that leaves them in second spot in the table on 16 points, two behind leaders Manchester City, while West Ham are seventh on 10 points.

David Moyes addresses long-running Liverpool drought as West Ham lose at Anfield again

17:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham boss David Moyes admits he is “fed up” of leaving Anfield wondering what might’ve been after a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool extended his miserable record at the ground on Sunday afternoon.

Moyes has never won a Premier League match at Anfield, a drought that now stretches to 19 matches across the course of his career, but his West Ham side have gone close to bucking the trend on several occasions in recent seasons.

Pattern emerges as West Ham continue drought at Anfield

16:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham’s away form in the early part of this season has been unrecognisable with that of most of the last, David Moyes’s side already having won more often on the road than they had going into April last term.

A trip to in-form Liverpool, though, was always set to provide the stiffest of tests, Moyes having visited Anfield 18 times as a Premier League manager without ever leaving with all three points.

That drought goes on, after second-half goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota earned Jurgen Klopp’s side a 3-1 victory and made it five wins on the spin since the opening weekend draw with Chelsea.

West Ham proved wasteful on their trip to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday despite Jarrod Bowen’s excellent diving header to level the scores.

Bowen responded to Mohamed Salah’s penalty with a brilliant diving header but missed another good chance before Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota struck in the second-half at Anfield.

Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with an entertaining win over West Ham.

Mohamed Salah’s 16th minute penalty was cancelled out by Jarrod Bowen’s excellent diving header before half-time, though goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota ensured the Anfield giants took all three points from an entertaining game.

Another impressive win for Liverpool, albeit West Ham did cause problems.

Still, Jurgen Klopp’s side continue their march to what looks increasingly like a Premier League title challenge.

Michail Antonio’s made an excellent start to the season and there’s a prime example of his value in these kind of games. There were six Liverpool players closer to him than his nearest teammate when he first received the ball there but manages to hold it up.

Liverpool vs West Ham: CHANCE FOR WEST HAM!

14:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

06 mins: WHAT A SAVE FROM ALISSION!

Brilliant run from Antonio takes West Ham up the pitch on the counter, the ball falls back to Paqueta, who drops a cross in for Soucek. He glances a header towards goal and Alisson pulls of a brilliant scrambling save.

The warm-ups are well underway at Anfield. We've had all the seasons this weekend on Merseyside... there was torrential rain on Friday, sunshine yesterday and now an overcast and blustery Sunday.

Liverpool have conceded the first goal in four of their six matches this season.

Speaking on pre-match media duties, goalkeeper Alisson said: “For sure we are trying to avoid that. But we cannot focus on negative things. We have to keep going with the right things, the positive stuff.

“Of course when we go onto the pitch we never go and think, ‘I will concede first to overcome the result’. But in the end what matters are the three points and we are going to do everything to get them.”

13:23 , Giuseppe Muro

West Ham captain Kurt Zouma says the Hammers are targeting a win at Anfield.

“We are confident,” he said in a pre-match TV interview. “We came here to win the game, obviously. We need to damage them. We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re ready.

“The team has just improved. We are all pulling in the same direction this season and we understand the plan from the manager and we’re all happy with the way we are playing at the minute. We’ve also been very clinical and solid at the back and that’s what we’re going to aim for today.”

For West Ham, Jarrod Bowen fit to start as David Moyes sticks with the side that took the lead against Manchester City.

Mohammed Kudus has to wait for his first Premier League start.

So Jurgen Klopp makes three changes to the team that defeated Wolves last weekend.

Virgil van Dijk returns in place of Jarell Quansah, while there are two changes in attack as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz come in.

David Moyes is confident West Ham can cause problems for Liverpool today.

Moyes said: “Some teams have got ahead of Liverpool this season but Liverpool have pegged them back. Liverpool is always an incredibly difficult game.

The crowd and the stadium always play a big part in trying to get a result at Anfield but I think, over recent seasons, we’ve tended to give them a good game.

“We’ve tried to make it tough for them to get points from us, and we’ll try to give them another good game on Sunday.

“We know we’re playing against a really good side and we have to go and show what we can do.”

West Ham’s new £38million signing Mohammed Kudus scored on his first start for the club on Thursday and will hope to retain his place in the team.

“I’m really pleased that Mohammed Kudus has made a big contribution for us already,” said Hammers manager David Moyes ahead of the trip to Anfield.

“He’s still getting used to us and we’re still getting used to him, as we’ve said about a lot of our new players who have come to the Premier League.

“We’re going to give Mo the opportunity to settle in, but he made a good contribution on Thursday night.”

Jurgen Klopp believes “something is growing” at Liverpool but that it is too early to label his new-look team mentality monsters.

“When I said that phrase at that time, it was not that I planned that way. I just remember watching a game and thinking: ‘Oh my God, how did they come back?’

“Now we have just changed a few things and turned games around. Staying in a game is a duty and we did that so far, which is why we have turned situations. Mentality? That is something we will create. What we have now is a mood. This is a spirit we have created because the boys really like playing with each other. It is a close group. It is early.

“I am really happy with a lot of things. It was not long ago I was being asked about us being 1-0 down, 1-0 down, 1-0 down. I understand that this may come up again some time but this feels completely different. Something is growing but I have no clue how big it will grow.”

Head-to-head record

12:14 , Giuseppe Muro

Liverpool wins: 81

West Ham wins: 29

Draws: 37

12:06 , George Flood

West Ham beat Liverpool 3-2 at the London Stadium in November 2021 but that is their only win in the past 14 league meetings.

The Hammers' solitary win in their past 54 matches at Anfield in all competitions was by 3-0 in the Premier League in August 2015.

Can they change that record today?

Prediction

11:58 , Giuseppe Muro

West Ham will need to use the same blueprint from their impressive win at high-flying Brighton last month if they are to avoid back-to-back league defeats this weekend.

On that occasion, David Moyes’ team ran out 3-1 winners despite having just 22 per cent of the possession on the south coast.

The Hammers must produce a similar gameplan here to halt in-form Liverpool, who you would expect to dominate the ball on home soil and create plenty of chances as usual.

It may be a tall order to expect them to pull off such a perfect away performance again, particularly with confidence high and goals flowing for Liverpool - albeit if they are making an unwanted habit of having to fall behind in games to wake themselves up.

Liverpool to win, 2-0.

West Ham team news

11:50 , Giuseppe Muro

West Ham hope Jarrod Bowen will have recovered from illness in time to feature against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Bowen has not trained for West Ham all week due to a virus, and he was left out of the matchday squad for the 3-1 win over TSC Backa Topola in their Europa League opener on Thursday night.

Liverpool team news

11:41 , Giuseppe Muro

Liverpool will welcome Mohamed Salah back into their starting line-up after he scored from the bench in Thursday’s 3-1 Europa League win against LASK Linz.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez played the full 90 minutes in Austria but Salah will return alongside Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota.

Summer signing Ryan Gravenberch was withdrawn with an injury scare on his full debut, but Jurgen Klopp is hopeful the midfielder was only suffering with cramp.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago Alcantara are still sidelined, meaning Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones should continue to deputise.
