Huge chance.

21:14 , Alex Young

GOAL!

Almost 2-0!

20:34 , Alex Young

32min: Nunez continues to struggle in the final third, sending a cross way too long and way too deep, straight out of play as Gakpo tries in vain to run onto it.

20:30 , Alex Young

28min: A prime example of overconfidence being one’s downfall. Alisson arely looked up before making the pass, with Guedes yards away.

GOAL!

20:26 , Alex Young

26min: Guedes gives Wolves the lead and it’s a HOWLER from Alisson, who just passes the ball straight to the forward to slot home into an empty net.

Remarkable.

20:25 , Alex Young

24min: Talking of Nunez being plenty involved, he’s just wiped out Lembikisa near the halfway line, but will see no punishment for it.

20:23 , Alex Young

21min: Liverpool back on top and passing the ball around with confidence. Nunez and Alexander-Arnold involved a lot.

20:20 , Alex Young

18min: Slight concern for Nevez who has gone down and stayed down after a tackle.

20:16 , Alex Young

15min: Wolves are on top!

Ait-Nouri is the latest to try to work some space for a shot, and almost wriggles through and finds Jimenez on the edge of the area before being crowded out.

20:10 , Alex Young

20:09 , Alex Young

8min: It’s all Liverpool in the early stages. Wolves not getting a sniff.

20:05 , Alex Young

5min: First sight of goal for Gakpo, who’s first touch to create space is brilliant but the shot straight at the keeper is weak.

20:04 , Alex Young

Klopp on Gakpo

19:38 , Alex Young

“Cody is raring to go - he has had three days with us - he looked good in training, we had a full week for training and now we let him start,” he told ITV.

When you play every three days you need to rotate and manage minutes but we didn't need to do that this week. The boys are looking forward to it - Cody is a good footballer. He is a smart boy and a good footballer.

We had two fantastic finals at Wembley last season - the competition is great, the final was outstanding and the atmosphere was outstanding. We have our memories and we want to go there again.

Lopetegui hits out at schedule

18:41 , Alex Young

Julen Lopetegui insists Wolves have no excuses at Liverpool - despite his frustration at the schedule.

The manager is unhappy the hosts have had two more days to prepare for Saturday's FA Cup third round clash at Anfield. Wolves drew 1-1 at Aston Villa on Wednesday after Liverpool lost 3-1 at Brentford 48 hours earlier.

"They have had five days, I prefer not to repeat it. We have to be ready. Despite the situation we have to prepare for the Cup in the best way we can," he said.

"It's very important but Liverpool have had two days more to prepare and rest. We have another match in three days (after) with the Carabao Cup (at Nottingham Forest). We have to be able to do a good match against one of the best teams in the world.

"It's not our responsibility, we have to play, I have commented it is different in the league. In the cup you don't have a second chance, it's not balanced but it's not our responsibility.

"Maybe we can work normally because a lot of players have to recuperate but tomorrow we will be ready to try to beat one of the best teams in the world. They have an incredible squad. It'll be a good challenge for us. "

Van Dijk backs Gakpo to hit ground running

18:28 , Alex Young

Virgil Van Dijk has backed Cody Gakpo to handle the pressure at Liverpool.

While manager Jurgen Klopp will give Gakpo plenty of time to acclimatise, the expectation realistically - considering his form this season and the impact Luis Diaz had arriving last January - will be for him to contribute significantly and provide the spark Liverpool need up front as Darwin Nunez continues to miss chances.

"I think he will handle it fine but you have no idea what it is like until you are under this sort of pressure," said Van Dijk, who is set to miss the next month after a hamstring injury at Brentford on Tuesday proved to be more serious than first thought.

"He will have to keep his head down and look at what we are doing as a group and listen to the manager, listen to the players around you and don't listen too much to the outside world because you can be one of the best in the world one day and one of the worst the next. It is never something in the middle.

"He has to stay calm and I think he will do that. He is that type of person."
