Liverpool are this afternoon facing another defensive headache as they prepare to face Premier League leaders Manchester United.

In a common theme for Jurgen Klopp this season, the Reds boss while likely have to patch together his defence.

There was no sign of Joel Matip during Wednesday's training session - the defender last playing against West Brom in December - though Jurgen Klopp said on Friday that the defender was “close” to return. If Matip is not passed fit, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson should again line-up at centre-back.

Such a switch leaves Klopp with less options in midfield and Naby Keita, who has not featured since December 19, was also a no-show during training and will not play.

Klopp said: "Naby is not involved... In the moment we have alternatives in midfield so we really try to give him all the time he needs to get 100 per cent fit so he's not in contention for Sunday."

There is no concern in attack, with the fearsome front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all fit.
