LOCAL ROUNDUP: Danville wins big at shootout

Jan. 4—HAMMOND, Ind. — The Danville boys basketball team hit the road to participate in the Mac Jelks Shootout at Hammond Morton High School on Tuesday.

The Viking took on Cardinal Newman (S.C.) in the shootout and was able to get a 62-51 win.

Devin Larkin had 23 points to lead Danville — who was down 31-28 at halftime, but outscored Cardinal Newman 34-20 in the second half, while JaVaughn Robinson had 11 points and CL Dye, DeMarcus Lucas, Jentezen Harris and A'Jani Davis each had six points.

The Vikings will return home on Friday, when they face Champaign Centennial.

WESTVILLE — The Westville boys basketball team was able to defeat Cissna Park 65-30 on Tuesday.

Drew Wichtowski had 16 points for the Tigers, who had a 35-12 lead at halftime, while Matthew Darling had 12 points and Easton Barney, Aiden Skinner, Cameron Steinbaugh and Tyler Miller each had eight points.

The Tigers will face Marshall on Saturday.

Kendall Roberts and Madi Spesard each had 10 points for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, while Savanna Cunningham and Sierra Cunningham each had nine points.

Gwen Bennett had 11 points to lead the Tigers, who will play Fisher today.

The Buffaloes will take on Salt Fork today.

The Comets will take on Chrisman today.

Aden Rangel (126 pounds), Wyatt Walters (132) and Parker Graves (190) each won by pin for the Falcons, while Quintin Holt (165) won by decision and Andrew Botner (144), Warren Pollard (150), Bradley Cope (157), Hayden Hack (175), Aiden Hinchee (215) and Cole Sheckler (285) each won by forfeit.

The Falcons will go to the South Vermillion Tournament on Saturday.
