LOCAL ROUNDUP: Hoopeston Area third at Watseka

Dec. 21—WATSEKA — The Hoopeston Area boys basketball team were able to take third place at the Watseka Holiday Tournament on Tuesday with a 56-47 win over Iroquois West.

Owen Root had 23 points for the Cornjerkers and was named to the All-Tournament team, while Wyatt Eisenmann had 10 points and was also named to the All-Tournament team, Kendrick Sigerill had nine and Trenton Montez and Mason Rush each had seven points.

The Cornjerkers will next play on Jan. 2 against Oakwood.

ST. JOSEPH — After a slow first half from both teams, the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin and St. Joseph-Ogden offenses started to get going in the second half.

But in the end, it was the Spartans who were more consistent and got a 63-45 win over the Blue Devils.

Chaz Dubois and Micah Stanford each had 12 points for BHRA, who was down 20-17 at halftime, while Keison Peoples had nine points and Ayden Ingram added six points.

The Blue Devils will now get ready for Dec. 27, when they start the BSN Classic.

CATLIN — The Salt Fork girls basketball team jumped out to a big lead and was able to defeat Paris 56-38 on Tuesday.

Alexa Jamison had 23 points to lead the Storm, who was up 26-5 at halftime, while Macie Russell had 14 points, Taylor Remole had seven points, Sailor Pacot had five and Bracie Hird had four points.

The Storm will travel to Tuscola on Thursday.

ATTICA, Ind. — The Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin girls basketball team scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to get out of Attica with a 35-34 win on Tuesday.

Beth McMahon had 15 of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter for the Blue Devils, while Ella Myers had 10 points and Marleigh Schmit had four points.

Adyson Goodwin had 17 points to lead the Red Ramblers, while Taylor Clevenger had 10 points.

The Blue Devils will start the Blue Devil Classic on Dec. 27, while the Red Ramblers will play Fountain Central in the Bi-County Tournament on Thursday.

HOOPESTON — The Hoopeston Area girls basketball team was able to beat Clifton Central 39-22 on Tuesday.

Brylie Cox had 15 points to lead the Cornjerkers, while Maddie Barnes had eight points and Claire Dixon added six points.

The Cornjerkers will play Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Thursday.

MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Moraine Valley 86, DACC 82

PALOS HILLS — The Jaguars could not get the win on the road against Moraine Valley.

DACC drops to 8-3 and will next play on Jan. 10 against Kankakee Community College.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Arkansas 60, Illinois 59

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Illini had another tough loss as the Razorbacks hit a buzzer-beater to win at the West Palm Beach Classic.

Makira Cook had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Illinois, while Kendall Bostic had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Genesis Bryant added 12 points and Camille Hobby had 11 points with five rebounds.

The Illini will play UTEP today.
