LOCAL ROUNDUP: Local girls teams learn playoff road

Feb. 3—The destination for girls basketball teams in the area was decided on Friday as the IHSA announced the schedules for the playoffs.

In a Class 1A regional in Chrisman, No. 2 seed Salt Fork will start on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at Chrisman against either the host No. 8 Cardinals or No. 10 Heritage. No. 12 Schlarman Academy will also be in the regional as they visit No. 6 Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Feb. 10.

In Class 2A, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin will host a regional and the No. 5 seeded Blue Devils will start on Feb. 10 against No. 11 Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Also on Feb. 10, No. 7 Oakwood will travel to No. 6 Hoopeston Area.

Westville is rated No. 11 and will be in the Monticello Regional and will start on Feb. 10 with a game against Warrensburg-Latham.

The Danville girls basketball team is rated No. 5 in their Class 3A regional and will host No. 3 Mahomet-Seymour on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

Salt Fork 44, Oakwood 26

FITHIAN — The Salt Fork girls basketball team put up a balanced attack on Thursday as the Storm beat Oakwood 44-26.

Macie Russell had 13 points to lead the Storm, who jumped out to a 12-0 first quarter lead, while Sailor Pacot had 10 points, Bracie Hird had eight, Alexa Jamison had six and Brycie Hird added five.

Jaydah Arrowsmith had 13 points to lead the Comets, while Nikita Taylor had five points.

The Storm will face Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on Monday.

CISSNA PARK — The Comets played a makeup game on the road and could not get the win against the Timberwolves on Friday.

Jaydah Arrowsmith had 11 points for Oakwood, who was down 25-9 at halftime, while Nikita Taylor had three.

Lauryn Hamrick had 15 points for Cissna Park, while Addison Lucht had 11 and Josie Neukomm addded nine.

The Comets will try to regroup against Schlarman Academy at Monday.

Westville 60, Schlarman 27

WESTVILLE — The Westville girls basketball team poured on the offense all game in a 60-27 win over Schlarman Academy.

Gwen Bennett had 16 points to lead the Tigers, who had a 30-12 halftime lead, while Laney Gondzur had 13, Madison Duke had seven and Hadley Jones and Aubrie Jenkins each added six.

Izzy Bogen had 11 points to lead the Hilltoppers, while Addison Forsyth had 10 and Regan Troglia and Layla Briggs each added three.

The Tigers will take on Armstrong-Potomac on Monday, while the Hilltoppers will take on Oakwood on Monday.

At Westville

Westville 60, Schlarman Academy 27

BISMARCK — With the game tied at 26-26 going into the fourth quarter, the Georgetown-Ridge Farm girls basketball team pulled away to get a 37-32 win over Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on Thursday.

Kendall Roberts had 20 points for the Buffaloes, while Madi Spesard had 11 and Addi Spesard added four points.

Ella Myers had 10 points to lead the Blue Devils, while Ella Acton had seven and Marleigh Schmit and Gentry Elson each had six.

BHRA will travel to Salt Fork on Monday, while Geo-RF will host Hoopeston Area on Monday.

At Bismarck

Maddie Barnes had 12 points for the Cornjerkers, who was down only 27-26 after the third quarter, while Addyson Kelnhofer had eight points and Brylie Cox had six points.

Megan Martin led the Warriors with 12 points.

The Cornejerkers will take on Heritage on Saturday.

At Hoopeston

CANTON — The Jaguars rebounded from a loss on Saturday with a win over Spoon River on Wednesday.

Danville Area Community College will return to Mary Miller Gym to play Lincoln Land Community College today at 3 p.m.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

CANTON — Jillisa Briggs had 10 points and 18 rebounds as the Lady Jaguars beat the Snappers on Wednesday.

Keiara Gregory had 21 points with five assists and three steals for Danville Area Community College, while Jayla Greer had 11 points, six rebounds and six assists, Wariya Alhassan had 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals, Rylee Dowers had nine points and five assists and Julissa Danglade had nine rebounds.

The Lady Jaguars return home today to play Lincoln Land Community College at 1 p.m.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL

Salt Fork starts state run

The Sidell Salt Fork seventh-grade boys basketball team will start play in the IESA Class 7-2A State Tournament today at Macon Meridian Junior High School.

The Storm are 17-2 entering the tournament and will play the first game at 10 a.m. against 20-0 Oglesby Washington. If the Storm win, they will go on to the semifinals at 5 p.m. against either 12-4 Burr Ridge or 23-1 Colchester West Prairie.
