LOCAL ROUNDUP: Pierce wins at Wild West Shootout

Jan. 9—VADO, N.M. — The start of this year is already like most of last year for Oakwood's Bobby Pierce.

After taking second in Saturday's first race, Pierce was able to win Sunday's ace in the Wild West Shootout at Vado Speedway Park for his ninth career victory in the event, tying Jonathan Davenport's mark.

Pierce started the race at the pole, but he fell behind Mike Marlar early and had to rally late. Pierce landed a mega-slider on Marlar with three laps left to win the $11,000 prize in 2.167 seconds.

Pierce's work at the Shootout is far from done as the series continues on Wednesday and will run through the weekend. He leads the six-race series with 168 points, only nine points ahead of Cade Dillard.
