Local wrestlers advance to final day of state tournament

Feb. 23—OKLAHOMA CITY — One more day to fight.

Multiple local wrestlers battled at the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association State Wrestling Tournaments Friday, with four remaining in contention for a podium finish.

Three Buffaloes battled in the wrestle back matches, with one advanced to Saturday's consolation semifinal.

Kale Livingston faced off against Sapulpa's Jack Madden to start things off at 106, with Madden finding an opening for the pin. Livingston finished his freshman season with a 27-7 record and a state tournament appearance.

Lee Moore then took to the mat at 113, staring down Sapulpa's Cavin Peper. The two fought to the finish, but it'd be Peper holding on for the 7-5 win. Moore ended his sophomore season with a record of 37-12 and a state tournament appearance.

Kam Hutchison followed his teammates with the 120 matchup against Saplupa's Jackson Willingham. Both wrestlers went on the attack early, but Hutchison forced his way into position to earn the takedown. He then tightened his hold, securing the first-period pin and advancing to Saturday's consolation semifinal round.

Then it was time for the semifinal matchups, with Kenneth Carter and Emery Turner taking to the mats in their respective matches.

Carter faced off against El Reno's Hunter Davidson, jumping out to 2-1 lead with a first-period takedown. Davidson responded with a pair of nearfalls in the second period, with Carter striking right back to trim the deficit to two points.

He fought to the finish, but Davidson was able to hold off Carter for the win.

Turner battled against Putnam City's Tessalynn Goodner in her semifinal bout. The Buff wrestler earned a quick takedown to take the lead, but Goodner struck back and was able to earn the pin to win.

And for Wilburton-Moyers' Madison Roe, she battled but fell to Mannford's Roseline Baker to be sent to the consolation side.

Next up for the local wrestlers, Carter, Hutchison, Turner, and Roe will all take back to the mats 9 a.m. Saturday in the consolation semifinals, looking to secure podium finishes.
