Local wrestlers advance at OSSAA State Tournaments

Feb. 22—OKLAHOMA CITY — The fight for gold will continue Friday.

Two McAlester wrestlers and one from Wilburton-Moyers advanced to their respective semifinals at the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association State Wrestling Tournament, while three more wrestlers are still in the hunt.

Kale Livingston got the Buffs started at 106 with his wrestle-in match, sealing a dominant win with a third-period pin over MacArthur's Jake Noble and advancing to the first round. There, Livingston faced Del City's Evan Colbert, where Colbert took the win to send Livingston to the wrestle backs.

In 113, Lee Moore fought to the finish but was defeated by Hunter Jackson — moving Moore to the wrestle backs on Friday.

In 120, Kam Hutchison fought back and forth with Elgin's Brice Martin, with both wrestlers trading scores. As they battled through all three periods, it'd be Martin edging Hutchison 13-11 to send the Buff to Friday's wrestle backs.

Kenneth Carter went to work in his matchup with Will Rogers' Isaac Colon-Arce at 157, making quick work with an early second-period pin to win and advance to Friday night's semifinal round.

On the girls side, Emery Turner faced off against Gabriella Nava from Norman North in the 6A girls 190-class — seeing her opening and taking her shot to earn the first-period pin and advance to Friday's semifinal round.

C. Hill battled hard in the wrestle-in match for the 6A girls 125-class against Noble's Morgan Atherton. Although Atherton earned an early takedown, Hill was able to use a pair of escapes to tie things up. Hill battled to the end, but Atherton was able to hold off a Hill reversal to take the win.

And for Wilburton-Moyers, Madison Roe began with her state tournament journey in the 5A girls 120-class with a 14-3 major decision win over McCloud's Addison Adams. She then took down the top wrestler from the west in Plainview's Jolee Thomas, advancing to Friday's semifinal round.
