Lostockers head to Haigh for the latest club championship outing

The Lostock AC club championships are in full swing - and there was another midweek race last week.

The road runners competed in the Haigh Hall four-mile Trail race organised by Wigan Phoenix - also the fifth race of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix.

Lostockers lined up on the start line with 300 other runners for a fast four-mile race consisting of two loops, around the grounds of Haigh. Starting in front of the hall, participants run towards Haigh Upper Plantations and then turn left out of the park and along New Road. It is then another left turn along School Lane and then a descent back towards the hall where there is always sprint finish.

The first Lostock member to finish, in an epic 28mins 28secs, was David Parry, shortly followed by Hazel Hatfield, who was the seventh female and first in age category, completing the race in an impressive 28:55.

Not content with just racing on Wednesday, the following day, Laycock and Hamerton took part in the Walsh Two Lads Fell Race, where they were joined by fellow Lostocker Sally McCoy.

The race commences at the Bridge Inn on Church Street, Horwich and as the name suggests, ascends through Rivington and over Two Lads, before returning to the pub.

This is a tough midweek race, covering five miles and an elevation gain of 1,000 feet.

Laycock was the first Lostocker home in an awesome 50:48, shortly followed by Hamerton in a magnificent 51:30, enabling her to come first in her age category. McCoy also had a fantastic run, winning her age category in 53.51.

Chris Baker and Rachel Hancock headed to Bury to compete in the Madbull Race the Train event.

This is tough multi-terrain race, taking in trails, roads, running tracks, fields and steps - and covers 10 miles starting at Bury Train station, to the whistle of the train.

As the train departs the station, runners set off to try and beat it. The race ends at Rawtenstall train station.

Barker had a strong race, finishing in 1:35:32 and Hancock finished in 1:44:08, both successfully beating the train.

Mike Berry completed the Dr Ron Hyde Seven-Mile Road Race, in Hyde. The race takes runners in and around the town of Hyde and Berry had a great race, finishing in 1:00:59.
