Romelu Lukaku’s Manchester United performances have come under scrutiny, but the Belgium star urged his critics to show patience following his six-game goal drought.

Today we look at one of the most sought-after forwards, Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku. We look at what he can do for fantasy football managers as well as goal scoring and how much he has impacted the Devils season so far.

Recent form

Romelu Lukaku appears to be having a bit of a goal drought, having not scored since September, but that has not stopped him from racking up points for fantasy football managers. For both Gameweek 9 and 10, Lukaku gained an assist which means he has been 100% involved in goals scored for United in the last two fixtures.

Worth Keeping?

Many managers will most likely be stuck for choice whether to keep Lukaku or not due to the goal drought with possible better options available who are managing to find the back of the net. For example, with Harry Kane starting against Real Madrid, he should be fit to start at the weekend against Crystal Palace.

He’ll see many fantasy managers pick him this week. Sergio Aguero is also in-form, having broken the record in midweek as the highest scoring player in Manchester City’s history. But, Manchester United have a set of tasty fixtures coming up after their clash with Chelsea in Gameweek 11. With Newcastle (H), Brighton (H) & Watford (A) to come, Lukaku won’t remain goalless for long.

Assister?

Lukaku is well known for more than just scoring goals. His hold up play has been a huge part of his game, even since his spell at West Bromwich Albion. Strength, speed and balance combine to make him a formidable unit which often bullies opposition defenders. During the 2013/14 season while on-loan to Everton from Chelsea he managed nine assists. Together with the goals he scored during that loan period impressed Everton enough to sign him on a permanent basis for the 2014/15 season. Since then, he has managed to get six or more assists in the last five seasons in the league.

Jose Mourinho’s tactical flexibility was seen against Spurs in the 3-5-2 formation, which is interesting with the long awaited come back of Swedish powerhouse Zlatan Ibrahimović. Will this mean Lukaku and Zlatan will play as a pair or will Mourinho prefer to put a pacy forward alongside either one of the two such as Martial or Rashford?

Comparisons?
Can you compare Lukaku with Harry Kane?
Can you compare Lukaku with Harry Kane?

We look at comparing the leading forwards in the Premier League and see who impact their teams most and who provides the most points. These forwards are: Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero & Alexandre Lacazette.

Assists in the last five fixtures – Lukaku (2) Morata (1), Kane (1) Aguero (1) & Lacazette (0)

Goals In the last five fixtures – Kane (6), Lacazette (3), Morata (3), Lukaku (2) & Aguero (2)

From this we can see that Lukaku has started to provide more assists, but his goals have clearly been lower than those priced similarly to himself. If Lukaku is to remain in fantasy teams, then he is going to need to start finding the back of the net on a similar number of occasions as the likes of Kane.
