Maguire, Horgan called up to Ireland squad for Nations League games

(Reuters) - Striker Sean Maguire and winger Daryl Horgan have been called up to the Ireland squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League matches against Wales and Finland, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) said on Friday.

They replace forwards Aaron Connolly and Adam Idah, who missed Ireland's Euro 2020 playoff defeat by Slovakia on Thursday.

Multiple media reports said Connolly and Idah had close contact with a member of the travelling party who tested positive for COVID-19.

"Both players (Maguire and Horgan) will link up with the squad later today," the FAI said in a statement https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/squad-update-horgan-maguire-called-up.

"The Ireland squad travelled back from Bratislava overnight and will train at the FAI National Training Centre tomorrow ahead of the Wales game at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday."

Slovakia sealed a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Ireland following a 0-0 draw after extra time and visit Northern Ireland next, with the winning team advancing to the finals of the rescheduled Euros in 2021.

After the Wales game on Sunday, Ireland will take on Finland on Wednesday.
