Arsenal could theoretically complete a transfer for Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres before any other deal this summer because of his availability.

The Swedish striker was in magnificent form in his first season in Portugal bagging a whopping 43 goals in all competitions. Such a haul has grabbed the attention of Arsenal for some time now with the former Coventry City striker firmly on their radar.

football.london understands Gyokeres was on the shortlist of players Arteta was looking to bring to the club this summer to solve the striker shortage. RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko was top of the list and it was understood negotiations were running smoothly until a change of heart saw the Slovenian decide to extend his contract in Germany instead.

Now Arsenal are on the lookout for alternatives which means Gyokeres is back on the agenda. It is understood the Swede has a £85m release clause which the Gunners may have to meet before they get their hands on the striker but reports on Thursday suggested a deal was close for the striker.

But, those negotiations could be sealed as a priority thanks to Gyokeres not being involved at Euro 2024 this summer. Sweden failed to secure qualification to the tournament and thus the 26-year-old is available to discuss transfers should he wish to.

Other targets on Arsenal's radar do not have that luxury though. Fenerbahce's Ferdi Kadioglu, Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, Everton's Amadou Onana and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams are all in Germany representing their respective countries and this ultimately means discussions surrounding transfers are off-limits.

Interest from other clubs in Gyokeres could only intensify over the course of next season should he continue his rich goalscoring form so Arsenal may wish to jump in now to beat their competitors.
