Man City 2-1 PSG LIVE! Jesus earns win - Champions League result, match stream and latest updates today

Man City vs PSG - LIVE!

Gabriel Jesus completed Manchester City's comeback to beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 and secure a place in the round of 16 of the Champions League as group winners on Wednesday.

PSG is also sure of going through as runner-up in Group A thanks to Leipzig beating Club Brugge 5-0.

The clash of the competition's wealthiest teams, who are yet to win European football's top prize, fully came to life in the 50th minute when Kylian Mbappe put PSG ahead after an interchange between Lionel Messi and Neymar.

But the attacking dominance by City that defined the first half saw Raheem Sterling's outstretched left foot nudge in a cross from Kyle Walker to equalize in the 63rd.

After Neymar missed a chance to restore PSG's lead, Bernardo Silva teed up Gabriel Jesus who connected with scuffed shot that still beat Keylor Navas in the 76th.

From the dressing room...

22:29 , Matt Verri

Pep Guardiola on City’s winner

22:24 , Matt Verri

“We attacked the spaces, and the quality from Bernardo, how he set the ball - when we talk about technique, it is that.

“It’s the right tempo, he does it in the moment, and give it to your mate in the best condition to score a goal. And after, good finishing from Gabriel.”

Sterling on target... again

22:12 , Matt Verri

Bernardo Silva on PSG’s threats...

22:09 , Matt Verri

“You’re never safe. Even when you think you’re controlling the game, if you give a little bit of space to Neymar, Messi, Mbappe, Di Maria... it’s always going to be tough.

“They’re always going to create chances, even if you control the possession.”

Bernardo Silva on frustrating first half...

22:07 , Matt Verri

“It was quite frustrating in the first half. It felt like we were controlling the game, pressing high, winning balls and having the possession.

“But we weren’t scoring again. Happily after the goal we conceded, the team had a great reaction and then we could score the two goals.”

22:02 , Matt Verri

More possession, more shots, more shots on target, more corners... and eventually, more goals.

City had to wait for the the win they deserved, but Guardiola will be mightily relieved it finally came.

FULL TIME

21:51 , Matt Verri

MAN CITY 2-1 PSG!

Pep Guardiola’s side have done it! They come from behind to secure the three points, and they are through to the last 16 as group winners.

Sterling and Jesus with the goals, after Mbappe had given PSG the lead. Brilliant game.

21:50 , Matt Verri

90+3 mins: That was very cynical from City. About three of them bring down Neymar as he bursts away. Last chance for PSG...

21:48 , Matt Verri

90+1 mins: Three minutes added on. Neymar sprays it out to the right wing, but it’s too heavy and Di Maria can’t control it. Goal-kick for City.

21:47 , Matt Verri

89 mins: Kimpembe barges into the back of Mahrez, PSG struggling to get the ball back.

They get their chance now though, after a foul from Jesus.

21:45 , Matt Verri

87 mins: City’s turn to drop deep now, letting PSG have the ball. Messi floating around trying to get on it.

When they win it back, City have no desire at all to find a third goal.

21:42 , Matt Verri

85 mins: Cancelo is at it again, another perfectly weighted ball through to Jesus. He is crowded out of it, but wins the corner.

Or not... referee didn’t see it come off Marquinhos.

City in front

21:41 , Matt Verri

21:39 , Matt Verri

81 mins: Neymar again the man PSG turn to, but he tries to nutmeg Mahrez and the Man City winger wins it back.

French side have been happy to sit back for most of the match... they have to chase it now.

21:36 , Matt Verri

79 mins: Neymar twists into the box, and trips over the ball. City fans in full voice at the Etihad now.

GOAL! Man City 2-1 PSG | Gabriel Jesus 76'

21:34 , Matt Verri

CITY HAVE TURNED IT AROUND!

Gundogan holds the ball up well, and he lays it back to Mahrez.

He swings a deep cross to the back post, where Silva cushions it beautifully into the path of Jesus, and he finishes past Navas. Wonderful goal.

21:33 , Matt Verri

75 mins: End-to-end now. Hakimi and Marquinhos very nearly turn a cross into their own net, but Navas just about dives on top of it.

PSG break, but Di Maria’s shot from range is a poor one.

21:32 , Matt Verri

74 mins: MASSIVE MOMENT.

PSG move it so quickly on the edge of the box. Neymar plays a one-two with Di Maria, finds the space inside the box, but his shot is wide when he had only Ederson to beat. Had to score.

James Robson at the Etihad

21:29 , Matt Verri

You can’t say City don’t deserve to be at least level and it has been all them since PSG took the lead.

The threat is there on the break if PSG can get the ball to their front three - but that has been an issue for them for most of the night.

It is one-way traffic again.

21:28 , Matt Verri

70 mins: Brilliant effort from Jesus!

Silva slides the ball through to him, and the Brazilian hammers a left-footed strike at goal. Navas saves really well... offside flag up anyway.

21:25 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Stones shapes to shoot, doesn’t and loses the ball.

It rolls out to Rodri, he does let fly... wild. Can forgive him for trying, after his stunner against Everton over the weekend.

21:24 , Matt Verri

66 mins: City really pushing now. Walker tries to play a ball through, and it’s deflected behind for a corner.

Gueye off for PSG, Di Maria on. Even more of an attacking threat now!

GOAL! Man City 1-1 PSG | Raheem Sterling 62'

21:20 , Matt Verri

IT’S ALL LEVEL AT THE ETIHAD!

And it’s a fully deserved equaliser. Really well-worked goal.

Ball clipped out to the right by Rodri, Walker runs onto into brilliantly and plays it first time across the face of goal.

Jesus can’t get there, but Sterling can and on the stretch just about pokes it past Navas.

21:18 , Matt Verri

61 mins: Herrera is now off, Danilo coming on to replace him.

Taken short, and worked back to Mahrez. He bursts into the box, and Navas saves his right-footed effort.

21:17 , Matt Verri

59 mins: Herrera went down, and the crowd do not respond sympathetically.

PSG players aren’t happy that City didn’t kick the ball out. The hosts played out, and they win the corner after the ball into the box is sliced behind.

21:16 , Matt Verri

58 mins: PSG happy to let City have the ball, and they know their will be more and more space for them to break into as the match goes on.

Rodri thinks he’s fouled, but no free-kick given. PSG break with their front three. Messi onto his left foot... Dias with a great block.

That Mbappe goal...

21:14 , Matt Verri

21:14 , Matt Verri

56 mins: Rodri into the book, late challenge on Paredes. Frustration starting to grow for City, and PSG look as dangerous now as they have all match.

Neymar plays it out wide to Mbappe, and his ball into the box is cut out.

James Robson at the Etihad

21:13 , Matt Verri

That is what can happen when you have game-changers in your team.

PSG have no business being ahead after that first half, but they lead here thanks to Mbappe’s goal.

It is hard to see any strategy from the French side, but, somehow, it’s working.

21:11 , Matt Verri

53 mins: That was always the danger while it was goalless, and PSG have found the breakthrough.

The visitors are playing out from the back, right in their six-yard box. Eventually Kimpembe hacks it away.

Zinchenko off, Jesus on for City. Response needed.

GOAL! Man City 0-1 PSG | Kylian Mbappe 50'

21:08 , Matt Verri

UNBELIEVABLE.

PSG are ahead, and their front three have done it. Neymar with a lovely dummy, and Messi then plays the one-two to work the space in the box.

His ball runs through to Mbappe, and he fires it through the legs of Ederson. Incredible that City are behind.

21:04 , Matt Verri

47 mins: It’s just as we were in the first half.

Rodri with a wonderful flick over the PSG defence... Gundogan lifts it over the goalkeeper, but the centre-backs are on hand to head it away. Offside flag then goes up, wouldn’t have counted.

21:02 , Matt Verri

We’re underway for the second 45 minutes!

21:01 , Matt Verri

11 shots for City, and five corners. Three shots for PSG, no corners.

The home side have been utterly dominant, but the PSG defence have just about held firm. Players coming out for the second half.

Elsewhere in the group...

20:56 , Matt Verri

RB Leipzig were without a win going into their fifth match of the group stage tonight. They are 4-0 up at half-time away to Club Brugge!

That result means both PSG and Man City are through regardless of how it finishes at the Etihad.

James Robson at the Etihad

20:49 , Matt Verri

I’m not sure how it is still goal-less. I’ve been surprised by just how poor PSG are. They do not look like a Pochettino team - or a team of any description, for that matter.

It is a case of one of the front three producing something special, while the rest try to hold off the home side.

They will need to improve dramatically in the second half - but with the scores level, they are still very much in this.

HALF TIME

20:47 , Matt Verri

Man City 0-0 PSG

It’s goalless at the break, but there’s been plenty of action. Rodri had a header cleared off the line, Gundogan hit the post, and Mahrez has seen a couple of efforts well saved by Navas.

PSG have had some dangerous moments on the break, when their front three click into gear, but City have been by far the better side.

20:44 , Matt Verri

44 mins: That was PSG’s big chance!

John Stones gets caught on the halfway line, and suddenly the PSG players burst into life. Neymar slides in Mbappe, who tries to curl it first time into the far corner but it’s well over the bar.

20:42 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Strong work from Rodri. Mbappe tries to beat him on the outside and get to the byline, but Rodri gets his body in between the Frenchman and the ball, and sees it out for a goal-kick.

20:41 , Matt Verri

40 mins: Messi finally gets a touch of the ball. Knocks it through the legs of Cancelo, and goes to ground. Referee gives the free-kick, looked like there was minimal contact.

20:39 , Matt Verri

38 mins: City with another corner. In towards Stones... referee says he fouled Gueye.

That will gives PSG a chance to slow things down and try and stall City’s momentum.

James Robson at the Etihad

20:37 , Matt Verri

Guardiola has just urged the crowd to make some noise. They are totally dominating this game and it is all PSG can do to hang on.

Mahrez, Gundogan and Silva are dictating the play, with PSG finding it almost impossible to get the ball into their front three.

If Pochettino is to leave here with anything he needs to get control of that midfield.

20:36 , Matt Verri

35 mins: PSG are hanging on for dear life. Gundogan has another effort at goal... blocked. The visitors cannot keep the ball for any sustained period of time.

Their front three haven’t touched the ball for the last ten minutes.

20:34 , Matt Verri

33 mins: POST! Cancelo whips a lovely ball into the box, Kimpembe can only clear it to the edge of the box.

Gundogan runs onto it, so much space... fires his effort straight against the post. City really should be ahead.

Mahrez cuts inside now, curls an effort towards the far post, and Navas palms it behind. All City.

20:31 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Gundogan tries to play the switch out to the left wing, to Mahrez. It’s well defended with his head... by the referee. Drop ball for City.

20:29 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Another brilliant block from PSG.

Gundogan fires a ball across the face of goal, and Sterling gets on the end of it to lay it back to Zinchenko. He connects sweetly with his left foot, but Marquinhos throws himself in front of it.

20:27 , Matt Verri

27 mins: Great play from Mendes. Drives forward, onto his right foot and lets fly from the edge of the box. Not powerful enough to trouble Ederson, who makes a comfortable save.

20:27 , Matt Verri

26 mins: PSG give Cancelo space to put the cross in - not sure that’s the wisest tactic. Too much on it this time, and it’s straight into the arms of Navas.

Visitors continue to have space on the break, but final ball isn’t quite there yet.

20:23 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Rodri brings down Mbappe, who had turned and was ready to break away. City man is probably fortunate to avoid a booking for that, he knew exactly what he was doing.

20:21 , Matt Verri

21 mins: It’s Mahrez again causing the problems, Mendes not getting out to him quick enough.

Works it onto his left foot, curls the cross in, but Gundogan can’t get enough on the header and it’s wide of the far post.

James Robson at the Etihad

20:20 , Matt Verri

Mahrez is getting loads of space at the moment, with PSG doing little to cut out the danger.

He had repeatedly been given the freedom to hurt them on the right and if not for Hakimi’s headed clearance moments ago, he would surely have opened the scoring.

20:19 , Matt Verri

18 mins: BRILLIANT FROM HAKIMI!

Mahrez slide in Gundogan, who back heels it into the six yard box. Bernardo Silva is there to lay it off to Mahrez, who looks certain to score with his curling left-footed strike. But Hakimi is there on the line to head it over for a corner.

20:18 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Wonderful ball out wide from Mendes, who has so much space on the left wing. He plays it in first time to Neymar, who cuts inside in the box and has a scuffed effort at goal. Flag goes up, offside.

20:16 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Kimpembe stands on the ball on the halfway line and the City players swarm him, but Paredes gets back well before it turns into anything dangerous.

20:14 , Matt Verri

13 mins: End-to-end at the Etihad, space for both sides on the break. Mahrez thinks Mendes has fouled him in the box - the referee doesn’t.

Sterling skips past Hakimi and goes down, but again the referee waves the appeals away.

20:11 , Matt Verri

11 mins: Good work from Mahrez, goes onto his right foot this time and stands a ball up to the back post. Sterling can’t quite get it down in time, and the chance for a shot goes.

Mbappe breaks at pace, plays it into Messi who finds Neymar... Rodri gets back well to intercept.

20:09 , Matt Verri

9 mins: The front three burst into life now. Played inside to Neymar, and he opts to shoot from outside the box, but it’s blocked. Messi tries to cushion the rebound back into his path, but not quite. PSG do look dangerous on the break.

James Robson at the Etihad

20:08 , Matt Verri

With the amount of talent on display here, you wouldn’t necessarily think an aerial assault would be the way to open the scoring. But it so nearly did provide a breakthrough for City, with Rodri’s looping header goalbound until Kimpembe’s last ditch clearance.

City have been on top in these opening minutes, with PSG’s front three having little impact so far. The threat is always there, but PSG will have to get the ball to them.

20:08 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Messi with his first touch of the ball tonight. Nutmegs Sterling and jinks his way into space. Made that look very easy.

PSG enjoying some possession for the first time in the match. Just about held out in the face of some early City pressure.

20:06 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Neymar and Mendes double up on Mahrez. He goes down about three times appealing for a free-kick... the referee eventually awards it. Centre-backs up for City.

Mahrez takes it, deep ball to the back post... cleared off the line! Brilliant header from Rodri, loops over Navas, but Kimpembe is on the line to head it away. So close to the opening goal.

20:04 , Matt Verri

3 mins: Mendes kicks the ball straight out, City pushing up really high early on. Zinchenko playing in the midfield three.

A couple of attempts from City to play a ball in behind the PSG defence, but too much on it each time.

20:02 , Matt Verri

1 mins: Looks like Bernardo Silva as a false nine for City, with Mahrez and Sterling either side.

Cancelo whips a ball into the box... Kimpembe doesn’t deal with it very well, but he gets rid of it at the second time of asking.

KICK-OFF!

20:00 , Matt Verri

We’re underway at the Etihad! Huge 90 minutes ahead.

Players are out

19:57 , Matt Verri

City players are out onto the pitch, led by Gundogan. Marquinhos then leads out the visitors... somewhat less warm of a welcome.

Ten minutes to go

19:52 , Matt Verri

Kick-off very nearly upon us. Just a reminder of how things stand in Group A...

City are currently a point ahead of PSG. A win tonight would see them through to the knockout stages as group winners. A draw would also see Guardiola’s side qualify, but the battle for top spot would go to the final round of matches.

Warm-ups nearly done

19:42 , Matt Verri

Just over 15 minutes to go, warm-ups pretty much done at the Etihad.

If City can keep these two quiet tonight, they’ll go a long way to securing the three points.

Pochettino staying focused

19:36 , Matt Verri

The PSG boss was asked in his press conference yesterday about the rumours linking him with the Man Utd job.

“This type of thing cannot distract. Rumours are there, and we need to live with that.

“We are so focused, we are giving our 100% to give our best for the club and to help the players perform in the best way. I am so happy at Paris Saint-Germain.”

Reverse fixture...

Hosts are in the building

James Robson at the Etihad

19:00 , Matt Verri

So, no Jack Grealish or Phil Foden in the Man City squad.

Bernardo Silva has been brilliant in recent weeks in midfield, but it looks like he’ll be starting further forward tonight - potentially as a false nine.

PSG’s big-name trio all start as expected. It’s a serious bench for the French side - Ramos, Icardi, Di Maria, Wijnaldum, Donnarumma among the options!

PSG LINE-UP

18:48 , Matt Verri

Starting XI: Navas, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes, Herrera, Paredes, Gueye, Messi, Mbappe, Neymar.

Subs: Ramos, Verratti, Icardi, Di Maria, Danilo Pereira, Dagba, Wijnaldum, Diallo, Kehrer, Ebimbe, Donnarumma, Franchi.

MAN CITY LINE-UP

18:44 , Matt Verri

Starting XI: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Stones, Cancelo, Rodri, Gundogan, Zinchenko, Mahrez, Silva, Sterling.

Subs: Steffen, Carson, Ake, Laporte, Fernandinho, McAtee, Jesus, Palmer.

Prediction

18:39 , Matt Verri

City have looked imperious since a mini-blip at the end of October that saw their long unbeaten Carabao Cup run halted by West Ham and Crystal Palace cause a shock at the Etihad.

Guardiola’s men have put Brugge, Manchester United and Everton firmly to the sword, though PSG obviously pose an entirely different threat and have lost just one match across all competitions so far this term.

It remains to be seen how much of a distraction the Pochettino speculation will be for the visitors, while De Bruyne is a big miss for City.

We’ll plump for an entertaining, high-scoring draw between two star-studded superpowers.

Man City 2-2 PSG.

PSG team news

18:27 , Matt Verri

Sergio Ramos could finally make his PSG debut tonight. A calf injury has hampered the start of his career in the French capital, but he has returned to full training.

It seems unlikely though that Ramos will go straight into the team - the 35-year-old has not played a competitive match since the second leg of last season’s Champions League semi-final with Chelsea in May, while at Real Madrid.

Only Julian Draxler and Rafinha are missing due to injury. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar have all been included in the 23-man travelling PSG squad.

Man City team news

18:17 , Matt Verri

Jack Grealish could return to the Man City team tonight. He missed Sunday’s 3-0 win over Everton after he withdrew from the England squad with injury over the international break.

City are still without Kevin De Bruyne because he is isolating after testing positive for Covid while on international duty with Belgium last week.
