Manchester United have been handed a transfer blow by both Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

While Erik ten Hag was backed with the late additions of Casemiro and Antony, United bosses were criticised for a slow summer of action.

As such, the club are being linked with a number of players in the January window, with ten Hag publicly admitting he was eager for reinforcement.

“We need options,” said the Dutchman after United’s win over Real Sociedad.

United are four points off fourth-placed Newcastle with a game in hand and will be in the mix for Champions League qualification when club resumes in December following the World Cup.

Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar, who was also of interest to Chelsea over the course of the summer window, had been touted as a defensive target.

Club chief Giuseppe Marotta, however, has confirmed the Serie A giants will soon hold talks over a fresh contract.

"We’ll meet with his agent this week as we’re planning to get new deal done as soon as possible,” he said.

"Skriniar loves this club and I hope we’ll be able to reach full agreement on new contract soon".

Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting, meanwhile, is another to have been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The former Stoke forward has rebuilt his career with first Paris Saint-Germain and now Bayern, though will see his contract expire at the end of the season.

Still, such has been the level of his recent impact, sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić has confirmed the club are eager to extend his stay.

“We’d love to keep him. I’ve a good relationship with his agent. We’ll meet and see if we can satisfy him. He’s a big asset for us,” he told Sky90.

“We are in contact and Choupo feels comfortable in Munich.”
