Man United 3-1 Arsenal LIVE! Rashford goals - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Manchester United vs Arsenal - LIVE!

Marcus Rashford scored twice as Manchester United made it four wins in a row and ended Arsenal’s perfect start to the Premier League season with a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Gabriel Martinelli looked to have given Arsenal a 12th- minute lead after finishing off a swift break but the effort was disallowed following a VAR review.

Martinelli forced two saves out of United keeper David De Gea as the visitors began to dominate but it was the home side who drew first blood through debutant Antony.

The Brazilian winger, signed from Ajax last week, was found on the right by Rashford and coolly drifted a shot into the far bottom corner.

Arsenal deservedly drew level when the outstanding Martin Odegaard threaded a ball towards Gabriel Jesus in the box and after a challenge by Raphael Varane the ball fell to Bukayo Saka who slotted home.

United restored their advantage in the 66th minute, however, when Bruno Fernandes found Rashford with a superb through ball and the England striker beat the advancing Aaron Ramsdale.

It was another swift counter that led to United’s third with Christian Erkisen breaking clear and slipping the ball across to Rashford for a simple finish.

Mikel Arteta slams VAR decision

19:24 , Jonathan Gorrie

Mikel Arteta hit out at the decision to disallow Gabriel Martinelli’s goal as Arsenal suffered their first loss of the Premier League season at Old Trafford on Sunday, revealing the referee labelled the call “soft”.

After a positive start for the away side, the Brazilian put past David de Gea after a brilliant through ball from Martin Odegaard, who was later adjudged to have fouled Bruno Fernandes in the build-up.

While Arsenal continued to create chances, United star Antony marked his debut with a goal ten minutes before half-time to give the home side a lead heading into a break.

Arsenal ratings v Man United: Gabriel and Lokonga costly in first loss

18:42 , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season as they were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Gunners were unlucky to lose as they dominated large parts of the game, but couldn’t make their chances count.

Instead, United punished them on three occasions as new signing Antony scored and Marcus Rashford bagged a brace.

Bukayo Saka did get on the scoresheet for Arsenal, who stay top of the Premier League despite losing, but it wasn’t enough.

Marcus Rashford to Sky Sports

18:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

“It is always a big game against Arsenal, especially as they have had such a good start to the season. It was a big test for us today. We showed up and stood up to the challenge. We can be proud if ourselves. It is good to get into a rhythm.

“It is tough. They are a good team and know their principles of play and are very good at it. A good possession-based team and offer lots of difficulties with players dropping into pockets and with attacking threats. It is what we expected. I thought it was an even game. There were big spaces in the first half we couldn’t exploit. We managed to do that in the second half.

“We have some excellent passers of the ball and as long as we make runs we are going to get the ball. We have to keep going for 90 minutes. There are a couple of times today we got through the press. It is important for us to keep going.”

Full match report: Rashford puts Arsenal to the sword as Man United make statement

18:28 , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal were dealt their first loss of the Premier League season as Manchester United continued their impressive run of form and claimed another big result at Old Trafford.

Having beaten Liverpool last month to stem the tide on a miserable start under Erik ten Hag, the home side took the lead ten minutes before half-time as debutant Antony marked his Old Trafford bow with a goal.

The Brazilian international’s price tag has come under scrutiny following a huge deadline day move to the club, though the 21-year-old went some way into starting to repay it with a fine finish past Aaron Ramsdale after a slick team move.

Arteta told that Arsenal are ‘main contenders’ for Man City’s title

15:49 , Jonathan Gorrie

Bacary Sagna believes Arsenal can push Manchester City all the way this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have taken maximum points from their opening five games, sitting two points clear of the champions as things stand.

After an ambitious summer recruitment drive, the Gunners look much stronger than last time out, albeit at a very early stage of the campaign.

City, meanwhile, have been boosted by the arrival of Erling Haaland. The Norway international has scored nine goals already this season, sending an ominous message to the rest of the Premier League.

Arsenal’s fast start comes during a difficult period for Liverpool, while Tottenham and Chelsea are yet to fully convince.

Sagna, who won trophies while at both Arsenal and City, believes the north London giants are in prime position to battle Guardiola’s previously all-conquering team at the summit.

Arsenal told they are no longer Man United’s ‘babies’ ahead of clash

15:20 , Jonathan Gorrie

Betfair ambassador Patrice Evra has revealed he used to refer to Arsenal as Manchester United’s “babies” but fears the roles have been reversed.

Mikel Arteta takes his side to Old Trafford on Sunday in what looks a huge test of their Premier League title credentials, albeit against a United side who are yet to fully convince under Erik ten Hag.

While United are coming into Sunday’s clash off the back of three wins, it remains to be seen how they fare against one of the Premier League’s leading sides in top form, with their victory over Liverpool coming during a difficult period for Jurgen Klopp.

Still, any win at Old Trafford would likely be a huge statement of intent for the victor, particularly if Arsenal can extend their winning run to the opening six games of the season.

Evra played for United during a period in which they dominated the Gunners, though Arsenal have at least won three of their six games against their rivals.

Ten Hag explains Ronaldo role as in his new Man United era

15:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

Erik ten Hag is ready to act as both friend and teacher to Cristiano Ronaldo after the Manchester United star’s immediate future was finally put to bed.

The 37-year-old had been keen to call time on his second spell at Old Trafford less than a year after returning from Juventus following a disappointing season for a club he has won medals aplenty with.

Ten Hag and the club repeatedly said throughout the summer that Ronaldo would be staying put and, despite speculation continuing right up until Thursday’s transfer deadline, so it proved.

The star was at the King Power Stadium on Thursday rather than completing a move to a Champions League side, coming off the bench for the third successive game as the Red Devils won 1-0 at Leicester.

Arsenal defender Tavares makes surprise admission over Marseille loan

15:00 , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares has revealed that he wanted the option to join loan club Marseille permanently, but the Gunners refused.

The defender, who moved to north London last summer, has been sent to spend the season in Ligue 1 after a positive start at Arsenal quickly turned sour after a string of poor performances.

The loan move appears to have paid off almost immediately, with Tavares scoring three goals in four games from left-back and the 22-year-old had hoped to join the club permanently.

Arsenal’s start

14:53 , Alex Young

No one can say Arsenal haven’t impressed this season. They’ve won their first five games for the first time in the Premier League era, and today can make it six for the first time since 1947.

But, make no mistake, this is the Gunners toughest test so far and, realistically, their first real test.

You can only beat the teams in front of you but two promoted sides, two more likely in a relegation battle and Crystal Palace away are not the teams to judge Arsenal’s progress against.

Win today and people we start saying all the right things.

Ronaldo to start?

There is a growing sense that Cristiano Ronaldo will start this afternoon, likely in place of Anthony Elanga.

As it’s 2022, we look for hints on Instagram and the fan account the great man often interacts with has posted: “Sunday the king plays.”

Name on teamsheet, it seems.

The Manchester United manager has made clear his view on his team.

The players showed a lot more of their capabilities in our victories over Liverpool and Southampton. That is because they have obeyed the most important rule in any successful team: give 100 per cent. Anything less than that is not enough.

Score prediction

14:25 , Alex Young

United look to have turned a corner of late and will likely try to use Old Trafford to their advantage, much as they did against Liverpool.

While Arsenal have been in excellent form, a draw away at United would have to be seen as another positive result.

1-1  draw.

Arsenal team news: Triple injury boost

Arsenal trio Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all in contention after travelling with the squad.

Antony could be involved in the United squad after completing his huge move to Old Trafford on deadline day, although it seems unlikely he will start.

Elsewhere, Anthony Martial will likely continue to miss out, although Victor Lindelof returned to the bench for the win over Leicester on Thursday night.

Casemiro is pushing for his first start, potentially replacing Scott McTominay given the tight turnaround in games.
